Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Director of Early Childhood Education to support and enhance our early childhood educational program. The successful candidate will have shared responsibility for staff supervision, preschool programming, staff development, and maintenance of all licensing requirements, as assigned. This position will be instrumental in maintaining a nurturing environment for all Preschool families by being a regular and welcoming presence. The Assistant Director is under the supervision of the Director of Early Childhood Education and Family Engagement, and will partner to support day-to-day operations, as well the overall success and growth of the preschool.
Core Responsibilities:
Operations:
Supervision of accreditation, licensing, and inspection requirements and ensure compliance.
Oversight of the admissions procedures, including conducting tours, organizing enrollment lists, setting up classroom groups, and working to fill open slots when applicable.
Set all class schedules, manage staff assignments, and maintain calendars.
Assist with planning and implementing health and safety programs and emergency procedures.
Maintain complete administrative records including personnel and certifications.
Monitor maintenance of facility, equipment and supplies.
Support the planning and implementation of school events.
Staff Development and Management:
Foster a relationship of cooperation, professionalism, collaboration and respect among staff members.
Oversee and participate in weekly Preschool Staff team meetings and staff trainings.
Assist staff in administering, planning and evaluating activities and curriculum plans and experiences that promote developmentally-appropriate learning.
Assist in coordinating professional development opportunities for teachers.
Assist with onboarding, training, and supervision to the Preschool Staff.
Support teachers and assist in the classroom when necessary.
Provide day-to-day leadership ensuring high performance promoting a positive environment.
Curriculum and Program Leadership:
Provide a clean, safe and child-ready environment.
Develop, plan and implement Reggio-Emilia inspired and Jewish curriculum in accordance with the mission, values and shared goals and remain current on field developments.
Assist in developing long term plans to facilitate the growth of the Preschool through community building efforts.
Maintain relationship and implementation of Music by Heart: Cousins Like Us Curriculum.
Family Engagement:
Conduct parent conferences and as-needed parent meetings.
Communicate with positivity and professionalism with parents, providing resources.
Facilitate parent committee meetings and coordinate parent community engagement.
Coordinate meal trains and support for families in need.
Oversee parent correspondence on Brightwheel messaging and email.
Assist in the planning and implementation of community programming including Tot Shabbat and Baby, Me and Community.
Set-up meal trains and provide support to our growing families in the Beth Sholom community.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
Maintain tuition and fees payments through FACTS.
Furnish financial statements and records for FSA requests and tax records.
Responsible for operation of the Preschool pursuant to an approved budget, including collection of enrollment fees and tuition, and handling of routine banking transactions.
Maintain and process payroll records and time and attendance records with Paychex.
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in a leadership capacity at a preschool, with proven success in staff management, operations and community relations.
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations.
Strong leadership skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, decision making, delegation and the ability to take initiative.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
5+ years working with preschool-aged children.
Deep understanding of early childhood education philosophy and child development.
Knowledge and willingness to learn about Shabbat rituals, Jewish holidays and Jewish values.
Experience working with children with special needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Mature, responsible, and professional demeanor.
Creates a warm, collaborative relationship with coworkers, congregants and the community.
Proficiency in computer and relevant technology.
Site Supervisor Permit or the qualifications to obtain permit.
Desired Attributes:
Possesses a working knowledge of Jewish holidays, lifecycle events and Jewish values and practices preferred.
