University of Chicago Professional Education and the Graham School are currently seeking qualified applicants for a part-time lecturer position to teach in our Master of Science in Threat and Response Management. Current University faculty and staff, as well as professionals working in relevant positions outside of the University, are eligible to apply. In person class sessions are held at our campus in downtown Chicago.The face of emergency management is changing rapidly. Alongside traditional threats and disasters, governments, businesses, and communities are facing emerging challenges due to environmental threats, infrastructure, and cybersecurity risks. Combining rigorous academic inquiry with emergency management practice, the Master of Science in Threat and Response Management educates students to help organizations and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises and disaster.Applicants must have relevant experience in emergency management, homeland or national security, cybersecurity, environmental security, social sciences, public policy, public health, legal and ethical issues, or a related field.The program operates in an executive, monthly format and includes nine (9) hours of instruction one two-day weekend each month on Friday and Saturday. Classes are scheduled during morning and afternoon hours. Courses meet for three consecutive months during each 9 or 10-week quarter for a total of 27 instructional hours. The first weekend of classes each quarter are held in person at our downtown Chicago campus, and the last two weekends of the quarter are held in a remote format.We are currently hiring for Spring 2025:Concentration: Cyber Risk ManagementThis concentration prepares students to enter the in-demand cyber risk management workforce equipped with the

ability to secure critical technology infrastructures and mitigate cyber-attacks.Elective Course: Cyber Threat Vectors

Learning objectives:Network security basics, IT systems (computers and network), system design, vulnerability remediationThird party supply chain outsourcing, managing legacy IT systemsScanning and Analysis ToolsIdentification of cyber threat vectors; geopolitical impactsDark and deep web analysisRisk Management and Security policies, Information sharingEmerging and future threats and landscapesResponsibilitiesDevelop syllabus including monthly class schedule, learning objectives, discussion topics, reading assignments, and assessment plans using grading rubrics.Develop Canvas Learning Management System course site.Develop and deliver in-class content (i.e., lectures, activities, simulations, tabletop exercises, group projects).Develop asynchronous content which supplements the in-class learning experience (i.e., recorded lectures, discussion board content, project, and research work).Develop assignments to minimally include mid-term and final assignments and course participation grade.Develop classroom tabletop exercises(s) when applicable.Grade assignments and return comments and grades to students via learning management system in timely manner.Attend all monthly in-person and/or remote synchronous sessions.Hold office hours to coincide with course schedule. Instructors are expected to spend at least 3-6 hours per week meeting with students outside of the classroom experience.Attend quarterly instructor meetings coordinated and hosted by program staff.Work with the program director and other program instructors to ensure consistency across class sections and participate in curriculum reviews.Participate in Capstone Project process as scientific advisor.Participate in co-curricular programming (i.e., guest lectures, instructor/student events).Supplemental asynchronous content and remote synchronous instruction methods must be developed and planned in conjunction UChicago Professional Education online instructional design and/or teaching and learning teams and approved by the program.After initial review of applications, candidates may be requested to submit a course proposal.*This position does not include benefits, the salary range is $3,000 to $12,500 per quarter.Qualified applicants must have a graduate-level degree in a relevant field, PhD is preferred.
