As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will work on enhancing and expanding our established MOM6-COBALT and ROMS-COBALT modeling domains. Your role will involve refining these models to deepen our understanding of ocean processes, boost climate resilience, and support sustainable resource management in Arctic and sub-Arctic ecosystems.

At IARC, you’ll contribute to impactful research that enhances our modeling domains and supports fisheries management, conservation, and climate adaptation in Arctic communities. Your work will engage both knowledge systems as equally important and complementary, ensuring that research is conducted collaboratively and meaningfully with the communities directly affected by Arctic changes. Additionally, you’ll benefit from professional growth opportunities, including publishing influential research, engaging in international collaborations, and contributing to science that informs policy.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- PhD in ocean biogeochemical modeling, marine science, or a related field.- A peer-reviewed publication record that highlights your research accomplishments.- Experience or a strong interest in Arctic marine systems, climate change impacts, and adaptation strategies.- Proficiency in computational modeling and data analysis, with experience handling large datasets and biogeochemical models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance and develop our existing modeling domains to better understand ocean conditions such as temperature, salinity, pH, nutrient cycling, and harmful algal blooms.- Collaborate with Indigenous communities to incorporate their Knowledge alongside Western science, ensuring both perspectives are respected and contribute to addressing the socio-ecological impacts of climate change.- Engage in interdisciplinary projects using our modeling domains to simulate marine ecosystem dynamics, inform fisheries management, and assist in community adaptation to environmental changes.- Partner with a diverse team of scientists, Indigenous leaders, and both national and international collaborators to co-create models that reflect a balanced integration of Indigenous Knowledge and scientific data.
Minimum Qualifications:PhD in ocean biogeochemical modeling, marine science, or a related field. Proficiency in computational modeling and data analysis, with experience handling large datasets and biogeochemical models.
Position Details:This position is located on the University of Alaska Fairbanks Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, on site, term-funded postdoctoral fellow position complete with both a competitive salary and
full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, faculty time off (FTO), and up to 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
