THE UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA FAIRBANKS DEPARTMENT OF ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES and the International Arctic Research Center (IARC) invite applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level in the area of Atmospheric Sciences to complement other members of the Atmospheric Science Graduate Program and Atmospheric Science research at IARC, the Geophysical Institute and the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. We seek applicants that are able to teach courses that include weather and forecasting (synoptic and sub-seasonal to seasonal), atmospheric radiation, statistical and numerical methods in meteorology and climate, and climate variability and change as well as topics with interdisciplinary connections. Areas of research may include actionable climate science, climate variability and predictability, climate and weather extreme, sub-seasonal to seasonal prediction, or hydroclimate.
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric Science and Earth System Science. An undergraduate B.S. program in Atmospheric Sciences is under development. Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students allows our faculty to develop an effective and productive connection between academics and research.
To thrive in this position, candidates must be self-motivated and invested in the academic and professional development of students and early career researchers. They must be able to use their expertise in one or more domains of atmospheric science to develop a successful externally funded research program and inspire the next generation of researchers. The majority of research carried out by our researchers is highly collaborative, so an ability to work across disciplines and as part of a team will be advantageous. An ideal candidate will have experience working with a diverse student population, an understanding of how to develop compelling research proposals, and a desire to advance the frontiers of climate science.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Atmospheric Science or related science field/discipline at the time of appointment and have research background in a climate relevant area. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to or potential for teaching advanced atmospheric radiation, synoptic meteorology, or statistical methods. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications.

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, exempt faculty, tenure track position complete with both a competitive salary and
