About Generate:Biomedicines

Generate:Biomedicines is a new kind of therapeutics company – existing at the intersection of machine learning, biological engineering, and medicine – pioneering Generative Biology to create breakthrough medicines where novel therapeutics are computationally generated, instead of being discovered. The Company has built a machine learning-powered biomedicines platform with the potential to generate new drugs across a wide range of biologic modalities. This platform represents a potentially fundamental shift in what is possible in the field of biotherapeutic development.

We pursue this audacious vision because we believe in the unique and revolutionary power of generative biology to radically transform the lives of billions, with an outsized opportunity for patients in need. We are seeking collaborative, relentless problem solvers that share our passion for impact to join us!

Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received nearly $700 million in funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with over 300 employees.

The Role:

Generate:Biomedicines is seeking a highly driven Scientist to join the department of Innovation and Data Generation at Scale (IDGS). The person will spearhead our cell line engineering efforts as a fundamental aspect of our platform capability, enhancing our pipeline discovery and early research activities. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with other team members and strong cell culture technical acumen, communication, and documentation skills are required.

Here's how you will contribute:

Onboard all the core components necessary for engineering cell lines and generate diverse target cell lines including knock-outs, cells expressing multiple targets, and reporter cell lines.

Validate the expression profiles of cell line expression using FACS and perform both bulk pool and single cell sorting to isolate cell lines with specific phenotypes.

Perform a broad range of cell/molecular biology techniques to analyze genotypes of cell line (i.e. DNA and RNA isolation, qPCR, etc).

Culture and maintain a variety of cell types with an organized cell line inventory with all relevant documentation.

Leverage scientific literature and external resources to explore biology of engineered cell lines.

Coordinate with the end users of the cell lines to define the processes, timelines, and outputs for the engineering of cell lines from request to hand-off.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

PhD with 4+ years or BSc/MSc with 10+ years of industry/academic experience in biology-relevant science field.

Proven expertise in cell line development and engineering using methods such as CRISPR technology, viral transduction, and electroporation/transfection.

Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience culturing various and broad cell types.

Molecular biology knowledge for plasmid construction and experience with various expression vector and promoter types.

Hands-on experience with a broad range of cell/molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis).

Demonstrated exceptional skills in aseptic cell culture procedures and techniques, cell line banking, and cryopreservation.

High level of organization in handling multiple cell lines simultaneously for manipulation and maintenance.

Knowledge and hands-on experience with FACS, cell sorting methods, and clonal cell selection and maintenance.

Ability to troubleshoot effectively and think analytically; attention to detail is a must.

Highly motivated, proactive, and enthusiastic team player demonstrating flexibility and a sense of urgency.

Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication to work effectively within a collaborative work environment.

Experience culturing and differentiating primary and iPSC cell lines is a plus.

Experience in assays is a plus.
