The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites applications for one tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in Asian history. We welcome applications from candidates working on the social and/or political history of all geographical regions of Asia broadly construed up to 1900 CE. Candidates who can help build on our existing strengths in the histories of power, institutions, law and legal cultures, or empire, are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary humanities group and will be expected to teach four seminar-style undergraduate courses annually, distributed across three quarters.
