If so, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity in our Imaging and Data Analytics Pathology department at AstraZeneca!The RoleAs an Image Analysis Scientist, you will play a crucial role in drug discovery by delivering the histology components of early investigative safety studies. Your responsibilities will include tissue trimming, processing, precision microtomy, staining, and digitization. You will independently manage the entire histology process and develop image analysis algorithms using both commercial software platforms and custom computer vision models, primarily for digital pathology imaging modalities (e.g., H&E, IHC, multiplex immunofluorescence) across various therapeutic areas.You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including imaging scientists, pathologists, biologists, and data scientists within Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS). Your work will contribute to deriving biological insights from digital pathology imaging data, ultimately supporting our drug development projects.Key Responsibilities:Drive impactful contributions to drug projects through comprehensive image analysis support across all AZ therapeutic areas.Develop and deliver computer vision and image analysis solutions for digital pathology imaging activities in preclinical studies (e.g., positive cell count, tissue segmentation).Collaborate globally with imaging scientists, pathologists, and other image analysis experts to define analysis plans and derive features from imaging data.Engage with local and global image analysis communities, building collaborative networks.Perform routine and non-routine histology tasks, including tissue trimming, sample processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and immunohistochemistry).Ensure high-quality slide digitization and manage human tissue samples in accordance with company guidelines.Analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly to team members and stakeholders.Maintain compliance with GXP regulations and stay current with relevant training.Contribute to scientific manuscripts, presentations, and patent applications as needed.Essential Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (biomedical sciences, molecular biology, biotechnology, etc.).Extensive experience in histology, including tissue preparation, processing, and microtomy.Knowledge of immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, or in situ hybridization.Strong skills in experimental design, critical data analysis (including statistics), and reporting.Comprehensive understanding of histology techniques and molecular pathology data analysis.Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or a molecular pathology laboratory is preferred.Familiarity with automated IHC staining platforms and immunohistochemistry methodology.Why AstraZeneca?At AstraZeneca, we are revolutionizing the integration of imaging technologies to provide unparalleled insights in drug discovery.
