Senior Scientist, Translational Pathology

Join our Translational Pathology group within Translational Medicine’s Cancer Biomarker Development Team. We are accountable for delivering timely high-quality, pre-clinical and clinical tissue-based assays, digital images, quantitative and spatial biomarker data to inform mechanistic understanding and generate novel clinicopathological insights to advance AstraZeneca’s Oncology portfolio and support development of Companion Diagnostics.
Accountabilities:
As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for study and panel design, staining and through to digital quantitative analysis. Your role includes but is not limited to Immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), multiplexed IHC/IF, slide digitization and digital quantitative analysis. You will generate tissue biomarker data to guide target identification, indication selection, early indication of biological activity, and patient stratification/selection in Oncology. You will also perform assay development, optimization and validation, assay interpretation and documentation.
Essential Skills/Experience:
Minimum Bachelors’ degree in relevant biological science and 3-5 years experience performing hands on immunohistochemistry, PhD in relevant biological science and at least 1 year experience performing hands on immunohistochemistry.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and documentation practices
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in use of relevant computer programs (Microsoft Office, Excel and MS Project)
Desirable Skills/Experience:
PhD in relevant biological science
>1 year experience using automated IHC staining platforms
Multiplex staining, immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization experience preferred
Biopharmaceutical industry, hospital or academic experience
Authorship on scientific manuscripts
Familiarity with GxP/ICH regulatory requirement
