SummaryThe Island County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a full-time paralegal to join our Civil Division. Our team of civil prosecutors and paralegals are dedicated to providing excellent representation and legal advice to Island County officials and department heads. The well-qualified candidate will have significant history working in a public or private law firm or related office. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must. Also important is the ability to keep perspective, humility, and humor in a sometimes-intense working environment.All applications must include a cover letter and resume.Position is open until filled.May be hired at pay grade 8, 9, or 10 dependent upon qualifications.Hourly pay:Pay Grade 8: $21.73Pay Grade 9: $23.59Pay Grade 10: $25.46Job DutiesProvide paralegal support to the attorneys of the Civil Division.Maintain client confidences and comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct.Assist attorneys in preparing, organizing, filing, and serving legal pleadings, exhibits, and discovery.Schedule and attend court and administrative hearings and proceedings.Review potential changes to the Island County Code.Conduct pre-attorney review of contracts.Communicate effectively with others by mail, email, and telephone.Maintain calendars, files, correspondence and documents.Respond to public records requests.Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of, and experience with, civil laws applicable in a municipal practice.Knowledge of legal terminology, proper format for legal pleadings and briefs, and rules and procedures of courts and administrative bodies.Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.Strong organizational and communication abilities.Strong user-level computer skills.Education, Experience & CertificationsBachelor’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, Professional Legal Secretary (PLS), and/or equivalent work experience.Valid driver’s license.Island County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
