4200 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008 Brief Description of Duties The College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) seeks an experienced academic administrator for the position of Chair of the Department of Health, Nursing, and Nutrition (HNN). The Chair provides administrative oversight and programmatic guidance for an interdisciplinary group of academic programs focused on health and healthcare. The three academic programs that comprise the department of HNN are Community Health Sciences (pending approval), Nursing (ACEN accredited) and Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND accredited). The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Student Success and with the land-grant centers in CAUSES. S/he is expected to teach a reduced teaching load, engage students in the college’s community outreach and education programs as outlined in the University’s strategic plan, and build and maintain effective partnerships with a specific focus on aligning HNN academic programs with health and health care initiatives. The appointment’s tenure and rank will be based on the incumbent’s record of accomplishments and experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coordinates and oversees the administrative processes in HNN. Develops and maintains an awareness of community health and wellness and nutrition by involving internal and external constituencies in program planning and design. Utilizes a variety of assessment techniques to identify local needs and ensure cultural relevancy and appropriateness of academic programs within the unit’s portfolio. Develops, implements, and evaluates HNN academic programs to meet the standards of regional (Middle States) and programmatic accreditors. Utilizes a variety of delivery models to provide access to HNN academic programs. Oversees the implementation and training of volunteers as needed, develops and delivers accurate and effective assistance and education in relevant program areas. Teaches and evaluates courses. Works with HNN students and CAUSES colleagues to plan and implement evidence-based research projects. Works collaboratively with other CAUSES academic departments and land-grant centers as well as with DC agencies and service providers to effectively address DC and national priorities related to health, food safety, and wellness. Provides structured mentoring and leadership to faculty within HNN. Other Duties Monitors and evaluates societal demographic trends for use in the development of academic programs and integrations with land-grant programs. Maintains and completes required reports including budgets, plans of work, reports of faculty goals and objectives, workload declaration, accomplishments, faculty evaluation and other documentation needed for program effectiveness. Performs other duties as assigned including special assignments related to nutrition and health and other needs of the college, university and community. Minimum Job Requirements Ph.D. degree in an accredited, health-focused degree, including, but not limited to: Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, or Public Health (and related fields). Demonstrated leadership, management, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. A track-record of experience in increasingly responsible leadership in the field of health and wellness, nutrition and/or dietetics. Teaching, research, and program planning experience. Experience, scholarship and credentials commensurate with tenure within a program in CAUSES.
