Keep Alaska Moving!What you will be doing:The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Program Management and Administration is seeking an Accounting Technician 1 in the Headquarters Finance Unit of the Administrative Services Division to help us keep Alaska moving by providing financial management support for the Juneau Finance Unit.Financial support duties include verification of cost accounting structures and corresponding financial accounting documents for payments. This position performs the entry and certification of accounting transactions in conformance with the Alaska Administrative Manual, Alaska Statutes, department Policies and Procedures and federal guidance. The incumbent will routinely reconcile and monitor customer accounts to ensure all costs are billed, collected and recorded timely. Provide research and technical assistance for resolving outstanding billing issues to keep accounts in good standing.Who we are looking for:Our successful candidate will possess the following competencies:Principles of Accounting : Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.Computer Skills : Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.Accountability : Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.Financial Systems : Knowledge of the standards, architecture, and specifications of automated financial systems, including source documents, system flows, system interfaces, and related internal controls.Customer Service : Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers.Minimum Qualifications:One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Substitutions:Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).To view the general description and example of duties for positions please go to the following link:
