The Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Computer Specialist (E S 9).

WaNPRC is one of seven National Research Centers continuously funded by the National Institutes of health since the 1960s. WaNPRC supports the research enterprise at the University of Washington and partners with others in the Seattle area, across the United States and globally to support their research aimed at improving human health and promoting the highest standards of care, health, well-being and conservation for primates around the world. WaNPRC is a large research organization with 5 units of scientific excellence; neuroscience, infectious disease and translational medicine, gene therapy and regenerative medicine, global conservation, education and outreach and animal and scientific resources. We are seeking a motivated, mission-driven, technology specialist at WaNPRC toward its support of leading edge biomedical and behavioral research involving nonhuman primates.

POSITION PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this Senior Computer Specialist position is to fulfill the mission of WaNPRC which is to empower the delivery of leading-edge scientific discoveries and to promote the highest standards of care, health, well-being, and conservation for primates around the world. This position is responsible for support, development, reporting, and analysis of research information obtained from a variety of sources and formats. This position will design and develop methods for collecting data, analyze outcomes, and use complex systems for data storage and analysis. This position will lead the support efforts, making sure all programs, workstations, and related research technology equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Computation (50%)

Coordinate and facilitate quality initiatives through research design, development of data collection methods, and analysis of outcomes.

Design user interfaces to store and evaluate scientific data.

Data analysis, data management, data acquisition and documentation.

Develop and implement algorithms for condition identification using variable specifications.

Support and test computers and programs.

Troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware problems.

Work with researchers to optimize efficiencies and improve operations.

Research Equipment (50%)

Maintain hardware and software of research technology systems; installing updates, identifying repair/replacement needs, cleaning, storage, and transport.

Coordinate multiple science user groups, use scheduling and communication.

Develop, refine, test, and run procedural projects.

Training and oversight of new users.

Troubleshooting and on-site resource for system errors or questions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experiences; data science and IT certifications.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices.

Familiarity with coding languages such as Java, C, Python and SQL.

Skilled in database design, data structure, modeling, and development of database management systems.

Skilled project management and organization to juggle multiple projects.

Ability to use data modeling systems to support tasks like documentation, performance metrics, regulatory reporting, and information security.

Excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Microsoft SharePoint.

Oracle 11G, 19C, 21C.

Advance knowledge in networking.
