OverviewThe Avinity Foundation and Presbyterian Homes & Services is seeking a Director of Community & Foundation Relations. The Director of Community & Foundation Relations is a knowledgeable and strong leader who understands and is passionate about the mission and vision of Avinity, exemplifies its values, and can articulate the mission to donors and prospects in a way that both educates and inspires them to make a charitable gift. This person will also manage a portfolio of up to 60 major donors and planned gift prospects and must serve enthusiastically with the perspective that fundraising is a call to serve this ministry.

Reporting Structure

The Director of Community & Foundation Relations reports to the Vice President of the PHS Foundation. The Director of Community & Foundation Relations of Avinity works collaboratively with the Avinity Board of Directors, the Avinity Foundation Board of Directors and PHS Management staff.

ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Community & Foundation Relations is responsible for providing leadership to advance the mission and strategic plan of the Avinity Foundation in the development, implementation, and leadership of the Avinity affordable housing brand, philanthropy, and programs. In this capacity, this leader will grow a culture of generosity within the Avinity communities, and work with the Avinity Foundation board and colleagues to set strategic direction, areas of focus, goals, and outcome targets. This position will advance the mission of the Avinity Foundation and Presbyterian Homes & Services by growing a community of generosity and overseeing the growth of annual gift income from $100K to more than $500K/year within your first two years of service.

The Director of Community & Foundation Relations will develop this comprehensive fundraising strategy and program, leveraging the research team and resources of other stakeholders, including the Avinity and Avinity Foundation boards of directors, PHS Foundation, PHS Management, Avinity campuses, and Senior Housing Partners (SHP). This position will also play a critical role in identifying community and corporate Foundations with a passion to grow access for more lower and middle-income older adults to be served within Avinity communities, as well as PHS-affiliated communities and growth areas, and oversee the grant-writing cycle from inquiry through to proposal.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in related field and/or CFRE preferred with comprehensive writing skills.

Five years in non-profit fundraising experience with at least three years of demonstrated experience in overseeing a portfolio of grants and donors representing annual giving of $1M or more.

Demonstrated experience in grant-writing and securing institutional grants (foundations and governmental).

Experience with moves management philosophy of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and experience managing high net-worth individuals.

Experience working with a Board of Directors and in governance roles.

Demonstrated strategic vision, impeccable judgement, and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Demonstrated ability to execute against annual plan, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

Ability to drive collaboration across the organization to identify needs and develop scalable solutions.

Experience in fundraising techniques including all facets of giving, all types of charitable gifts, donor prospect research, donor publications, appeals and mailings, writing grants, directing campaigns, using social media, and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal relationship building skills, negotiating skills, and communication skills including the ability to inspire confidence by communicating giving opportunities that compel charitable support.

Ability to remain flexible and provide creative approaches to challenges and opportunities.

Ability to develop and execute strategic plans that support Avinity’s mission and brand.
