Job Summary/Basic Function
News Editor: The Picket News Editor is required to write one news story a week in addition to leading reporters assigned with writing news stories, and is required to complete the first process of editing a news story and then send it to the Editor-in-Chief/Managing Editor for final edits. The News Editor is also part of the Picket Editorial Board and will meet weekly with other editors to discuss weekly planning, story pitches, and to vote on a monthly editorial. A News Editor is required to write at least one editorial per semester. The News Editor is required to represent The Picket Newspaper in Shepherd University's weekly Student Government Association meetings.
Sports Editor: The Picket Sports Editor is required to write one sports story per week in addition to leading reporters assigned with writing sports stories. The editor is required to complete the first process of editing a news story and then send it to the Editor-in-Chief/Managing Editor for final edits. The Sports Editor is also part of the Picket Editorial Board and will meet weekly with other editors to discuss weekly planning, story pitches, and to vote on a monthly editorial. A Sports Editor is required to write at least one editorial per semester. The Sports Editor is required to represent The Picket Newspaper in Shepherd University's weekly Student Government Association meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Shepherd student in good standing with strong communication skills and demonstrated steady work ethic. This position is for students who have leadership experience in the daily operations of The Picket, or a similar collegiate student-run publication.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have previous experience working with The Picket, with strong team-building skills, as well an ability to work extremely well with others in a diverse campus community environment. The preferred candidate will also have a working knowledge of Associated Press style, reporting experience, self-motivation, and the ability to multi-task and deadlines.
