Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, us, 55905

Responsibilities

Position Description

The Department of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, is seeking a Pediatric Transplant Cardiologist to join our practice.

The Pediatric Transplant Cardiologist would join the Division of Pediatric Cardiology within the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The role would primarily be focused on the care of heart failure, mechanical support, and pre- and post-transplant patients. Additional responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient general pediatric cardiology care. The candidate would also have the opportunity to participate in inpatient and outpatient echocardiography depending on experience. The candidate would participate in the general pediatric cardiology hospital service call pool but would only be asked to perform 4-5 weeks per year of general service and call depending on FTE.

The transplant program is a busy practice, with volumes of 10-15 transplants/year, and managing more than 100 post-transplant patients. The candidate would be joining 3 established transplant cardiologists, and the program is also supported by 1 PA with a second APP position currently being recruited, and 1 RN transplant coordinator with a second currently being recruited.

The pediatric cardiology team at Mayo Clinic has established a robust, very successful outreach practice, which is split amongst all members of our division. The successful candidate would be asked to participate in the outreach practice (either in person or via telehealth) along with their colleagues. There are many opportunities to be involved in other areas of specialty care, and we are happy to explore these with any potential candidate and match their interests.

Division of Pediatric Cardiology

Parents seeking the best treatment for their children with congenital (present at birth) heart disease have turned to Mayo Clinic Pediatric Cardiology (https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/childrens-center/pediatric-cardiology/overview) for more than 60 years. Each year, clinic doctors evaluate and treat thousands of children and teenagers with congenital heart problems.

The Mayo Congenital Cardiac Program is comprised of 15 pediatric cardiologists, 8 adult congenital cardiologists, and 2 congenital cardiac surgeons devoted to the care of patients with congenital heart disease from the fetus through adulthood. The pediatric cardiologists often have joint appointments with their respective adult cardiology division, to help facilitate care of teenagers and young adults, and thus have access to novel and innovative technologies in use in adults. Mayo Clinic has a long tradition of having very active congenital cardiac surgical and cardiac transplant programs, and it is one of the leading centers for genetic heart rhythm diseases and care of at-risk athletes.
