Salary Range - up to $18 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY: The Zamboni Driver at Howard Park is responsible for maintaining a high-quality ice surface through scheduled resurfacing and other ice maintenance tasks. This position also involves ensuring the cleanliness of locker rooms, bathrooms, lobbies, bleachers, hallways, and other designated areas within the park.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain cleanliness of the ice rink, locker rooms, bleachers, and surrounding areas as directed.Measure and record ice thickness to ensure quality.Follow posted resurfacing schedules to maintain facility operations.Perform cleaning tasks to keep the facility tidy and presentable.Collaborate with team members to prepare the building for the next day.Communicate any concerns about the building and equipment to the supervisor.Foster professional relationships with staff and supervisors.Provide excellent customer service and address public inquiries.Install and remove ice as needed.Prepare ice for events.Repair and maintain proper ice levels.Monitor and record air and ice temperatures.Assist with snow removal on the rink and grounds.Assist with closing the building as required.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate can work efficiently under tight deadlines, has general knowledge of park operations, and is experienced in operating ice resurfacing equipment and an ice edger. A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one upon hire is required.

EQUIPMENT: The Zamboni driver operates an ice resurfacing machine to maintain optimal ice conditions. They are also responsible for using various maintenance tools and equipment, such as snowblowers, gas powered edgers, hoses and shovels, to ensure the ice surface is clean and safe. Additionally, the driver must perform routine checks and minor repairs on the Zamboni to ensure its efficient operation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The candidate must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and adapt to temperature changes. They should be able to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The role involves frequent bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, reaching, and driving. Additionally, the candidate must be able to distinguish sounds and identify people or objects at various distances.
