Our Network Operations team works around the clock running United’s global operation, safely, reliably and efficiently. From dispatching and routing our fleet to coordinating with maintenance line planning and crew scheduling, this team makes caring connections with our internal customers and ultimately, United’s customers. From pushback to landing, the Network Operations team is the eyes and ears on the ground no matter where in the world your United flight takes you.

Network Operations (NOC)
The Network Operations department helps us run a safe, reliable airline, and includes careers in aircraft routing and dispatching, crew scheduling, air traffic control and more.
Job overview and responsibilities
Owns and upholds Safety Management Systems for Risk, Mitigation and Compliance focused on Non-Routine and Charter operations within the Network Operations Center alongside cohorts in other divisions. Provides leadership and subject matter expertise, works closely with the individuals responsible for leading and developing policy and procedures for the Network Operations division to maintain acceptable risk and mitigation levels as prescribed in regulatory, industry and company standards. The Senior Manager of Safety for NRC serves as line of defense within the safety management systems of Network Operations to coordinate all events, investigations and corrective actions under regulatory and safety pillars of Part 5 SMS. Provides support to ensure that safety is the foundation of all policies standards and practices in the NOC that directly support NRC. Provides support to designated risk acceptors within Network Operations’ governance of operational control. One of the primary FAA, TSA and other government contacts for the division to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and United Airlines' policy conformance and communication. Engages with Corporate Safety, Corporate Security, and Government Affairs reviewing and addressing safety and security threats and risks. Collaborates with cross divisional leaders to ensure compliance and adherence to safety standards.
Owns and upholds Network Ops scope for leadership in safety policy, risk, quality assurance and safety promotion within the NRC organization. Leads teams to drive senior level decision-making upon presentation of risks, hazards and imminent danger to operational control, flight and leads the team to execute on said goals above. Focus areas – Non-Routine operations – Charter operations and NRFO
Leads program management and daily activities for all Non Routine, Charter Operations’ and NRFO activities governed by Network Operations. Collaborates with appropriate leaders to focus on Risk Identification, Mitigation and voluntary disclosures to regulatory agencies
Facilitate cross-divisional meetings, updates, and follow-ups regarding active and recently closed cases, strategy and development for continuous improvements linking back to safety management systems. Uphold and champion identified risks, hazards and emerging occurrences from programs and drive policy enhancements via SRM tools, technology and interface with stakeholders and experts
Carry out other responsibilities and collateral duties as assigned to include coaching and mentoring team members within the Network Operations’ organizations. Represent and promote the interests of Network Operations and United Airlines while working with internal and external stakeholders by having an in-depth understanding of their requirements, operating environment, strategic direction, and other factors
Provide SME-level expertise on policy standards to internal and external stakeholders including leading and supporting projects improving or establishing rigorous attention to safety and regulatory compliance. Research regulations, company documents, guidance documents, industry standards, and other sources of information. Continuously learn relevant new skills and refresh existing knowledge by attending training and other development events
NOTE: This position is based at the NOC in Arlington Heights, IL and considered as an onsite position.

Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
Field of study in Aviation, Safety, Standards and Policy Program Management, Project Management, Risk Management, Dangerous Goods, Investigations, or equivalent experience
7+ years of relevant leadership experience at varied locations in an operational environment or equivalent
Prior work experience with standards, safety, investigations, regulatory compliance, audits, and/or regulators, a strong asset-both within and outside of the aviation industry
Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal skills, a high degree of diplomacy, maturity, and discretion are required
Substantial experience with Microsoft applications
Self-starter with the ability to successfully complete multiple time-sensitive tasks without direct supervision, particularly while traveling and on occasion when working long or irregular hours
Ability to work under tight and critical time constraints, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays
Travel is required up to 30%. Must maintain a valid, unrestricted passport and maintain unrestricted ability to travel anywhere United Airlines and any of its business partners may be located
Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time, inside and outside, occasionally in harsh or otherwise challenging environments, at and around airports. PPE is required in most airport environments
Must be willing and able to work at the NOC in Arlington Heights, IL as onsite
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Master’s degree or related experience

Internal Airline Operating systems
Operational Certification: Dispatch, A&P, Flight
Certification: Root Cause Analysis (RCA), investigation, auditing, and equivalent certifications an asset
Solid understanding of SMS and investigative tools (ex: RCA, Sologic, HFACS) a strong asset
