SUMMARY: Under general supervision performs a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, tasks required to maintain the cleanliness, good order, sanitary, safe and secure condition of schools and/or administrative spaces. Incumbents must be capable of working reliably and independently to carry out assigned tasks and work schedules.
JOB GOAL: To assure that each school child, parent, community, and staff member is provided with a clean, safe, healthy, and attractive environment. Provide assistance to various publics that use the facilities in a courteous, friendly, helpful and positive manner. Be cooperative, service-oriented and able to function as a member of a team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sweeps, mops (wet & dry), scrubs, polishes, shines and vacuums rest rooms, hallways, stairs, mechanical rooms and office space.Removes chewing gum, graffiti, spots or other defacements from walls, doors and furniture and applies disinfectant and cleaning agents as assigned.Stocks copy rooms, offices and work areas with copy paper and educational supplies and restock all rest room, office and maintenance areas with paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap and tissues.Operates building equipment and mechanical systems including fire alarm systems, lighting and HVAC systems, floor machines, buffers, carpet cleaning equipment, tractors, and mowers.Empties pencil sharpeners, trash containers and deposits trash in assigned dumpsters.Maintains building, performing minor painting, plumbing, electrical repairs and other related maintenance activities and replaces HVAC filters. Performs work projects, and addresses emergencies as the need arises.Notifies a supervisor concerning need for major repairs or unsafe conditions.Cleans snow and debris from sidewalks, walkways, and assigned areas, mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and completes landscaping as assigned using appropriate tools and equipment.Polices parking lots and student activity areas (including stadiums) picking up papers and trash.Maintains all cleaning and maintenance equipment in condition leaving same in neat storage at the end of each shift.Assists with the set up or break down of furniture and equipment for evening functions or special events.Duties appropriate to the position may be added by the Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Supervisor or designee.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. 4. Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, and members of the community.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 2. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, measure precisely and estim te large areas or quantities.
REASONING ABILITY: 1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions and solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 2. Ability to act calmly and effectively in stressful and/or emergency situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: 1. Possess patience, sound judgment, logical reasoning, and problem solving capabilities. 2. Must be able to concentrate and maintain focus under adverse conditions and must be able to tolerate stressful situations while maintaining proper decorum.
