GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position reports to two practicing clinical professors/attorneys. One attorney practices criminal law and the other is TBD. The areas of law and professors are subject to change in the future. In addition to traditional client-related legal work, there are administrative tasks relating to each professor's teaching responsibilities.
COMMUNICATIONS
Spanish speaking is a plus but not required. Is frequently the point of contact for students, clients, judges, court personnel, and firms and companies who use externs. Inquiries are handled via email, telephone and in person.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
The supervising attorney, students and clients are the primary customers to this position. Their supervising attorney relies on them to be knowledgeable, organized and reliable. Explains to students how the court system works and how things get done within the system. Strong relationships with clients and court personnel are essential to the effective running of the legal practice so this person needs excellent communication skills.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and legal secretarial experience of at least two years. Graduate of secretarial or business school is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills
Ability to type 65 wpm with an error rate of 2% or less. Knowledge of how to prepare legal documents. Proficiency in Word or WordPerfect and E-Filing is required. Basic knowledge of Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Clio, Blackboard and PACER experience are preferred but not required. Careful attention to detail and organization skills are essential in this position. Strong technical skills are necessary.

Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibility
Prepare legal documents such as briefs, complaints, motions, orders, and subpoenas. This includes typing, proofreading, and finalizing these documents. Also drafts and prepares basic correspondence to clients, opposing counsel, and other interested parties and also drafts routine notices and motions. Will also file hard copy documents into the client file. Manage attorney records for client billing. Filing of documents with the court may be done electronically so knowledge of Federal and State e-filing is required. Knowledge of how legal documents are prepared and how the court system works is essential.

Client services: Interact by phone, mail or in person with case-related parties such as clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, judges and other court personnel. Must stay familiar with case status in order to properly answer and direct questions.

Perform other daily tasks relative to the responsibilities of a legal secretary which include entering attorney time into billing system, maintaining an organized filing system and ensure proper filing of documents; phone relief for 1.5 hours each week.
