Under the general direction of the Chief of Staff, Administration Program (SSM II), the Organizational Excellence Specialist (SSM I) will be responsible for various administrative project assignments and general oversight to assist the Chief of Staff, Administration Program, in ensuring that complex issues and policy matters of critical concern are facilitated, completed, and implemented throughout Administrative Operations statewide. The incumbent supports high-level projects for the Administration Program, induding the management of two corporate governance councils. In addition, the incumbent supports the Administration Program's conferences, initiatives, and trainings, including but not limited to the five divisions of the Administration Program: Business Operations, Human Resources, Procurement & Contracts, Risk & Strategic Management, and Safety & Management Services.
The successful candidate has excellent verbal and written skills, builds strong work relationships, provides excellent customer service, enjoys finding new and better ways to do things and working in a visible and important role. The incumbent serves as a lead in the coordination of research, studies, and reports of special interest to the Administration Program which are sensitive and complex in nature and affect critical and visible issues or efforts.

Working Conditions
This position is located in Sacramento, Sacramento County.
This position's headquarter location is Sacramento, CA. While at the Headquarters location, the incumbent works in a dimate-controlled office under natural and artificial lighting. Multi-floor buildings are equipped with elevators and stairs. Possession of a valid driver's license is required to operate a State owned, leased, and/or personal vehicle. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's current telework policy. While Caltrans supports telework, in-person attendance may be required, based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquartered location. Business travel reimbursements considers an employee's designated Headquarters location, primary residence, and may be subject to California Department of Human Resources regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
