Job Summary
The Lead Analyst of Transmission Trading is responsible for managing Luminant’s transmission congestion risk in the rolling and monthly CRR auctions, as well as in Day-Ahead and Real-Time markets. Responsibilities consist of developing the pricing Point-Of-View to hedge the risk of delivery of power from Luminant’s generation locations to the delivery points, such as Hubs or Load Zones. A Lead Analyst also participates actively in the identification and execution of speculative trades in the CRR/FTR auctions and Day Ahead Market. This position interfaces with Grid Optimization, Fundamental Analysis, Operations and Power Trading & Structuring.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide electrical power transmission system/congestion analysis and price forecasting which will be used to effectively hedge the Node-To-Hub delivery basis risk for Luminant’s nuclear, coal, gas and wind assets
•Build and maintain power systems models for trading one to twenty for months out.
•Identify opportunities for speculative CRR/FTR and DAM Point-To-Point trades by assessing the performance of the electric grid in the long and near term respectively
•Provide transmission risk Point-Of-View to groups such as Power Trading, Origination and Development for commercial operations and Regulatory to improve the performance of the market and reliability of the transmission system
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
•5+ years of experience conducting transmission analysis and LMP market modeling, including at least 2 years of experience with a market simulation model such as UPLAN, Promod, etc.
•Working experience with ERCOT and/or PJM transmission system analysis and Nodal market structure
•Book value focused individual with high ethical standards to achieve targets while complying with all internal and external regulations
•Proficiency on MS Excel, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) database querying and algorithm design
•Ability to execute decisions based on comprehensive analysis of large datasets
•Excellent written and verbal skills to present complex analysis studies to internal management and market forums
•Ability to work independently and also in a collaborative environment
•Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
