Activities may include pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. Involves activities associated with analyzing research funding trends and sources, forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: coordinating and identifying and developing and / or presenting proposals, contracts and other agreements; reviewing proposals to ensure institutional compliance and program success; negotiating, administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award / subcontract issuance and administration.

Under general supervision, develops and/or oversees research, awards and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Works on proposals of moderate scope such as single investigator NSF proposals where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc.). Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. May be eligible for delegated signature authority. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.

The department is comprised of 18 divisions employing over 300 faculty, 83 fellows, 84 residents, 31 Post Docs and non-faculty academics and 170 staffs. The Department has annual clinical income from inpatient and outpatient activities totaling over $90 million and annual extramural funding (contracts and grants) exceeding $40 million. The department ranks 17th in the nation among Pediatric departments for funding from the National Institutes of Health.

The Department's clinical enterprise is based at the 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco, the 191-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Mount Zion, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, and at a number of outreach clinics throughout Northern California, providing the Department with an unsurpassed opportunity to meet the needs of infants, children, and young adults throughout the Bay Area. In 2019, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals ranked in all 10 children's specialties in U.S. News and World Report.

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / trainingMinimum 1 year of experience working with budgets, contracts and grants, human resources/payroll, contracts and grants or equivalent related experienceAbility to manage a high volume of transactionsAbility to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reportingDemonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reportsAbility to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focusMaintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administrationDemonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principlesWriting skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiencesExcellent initiative, organization skills, attention to detail and accuracyAbility to participate and contribute as a member of a team in support of unit goals and objectivesDemonstrated ability on analyze and interpret data.
