Description of Work

Position is a psychiatrist located at NC Correctional Institute for Women (NCCIW) in Raleigh, NC. This facility houses female offenders. The psychiatrist provides psychiatric services to mentally ill offenders. Offender patients are received into the healthcare complex from prisons throughout the state as well as county jails for the purposes of stabilization and treatment through implementation of individualized treatment plans. The psychiatrist is also responsible for inpatient units with occasional outpatient duties as needed and requires on-call duties on a regularly scheduled rotating basis

The

Division of Comprehensive Health Services

is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
