This is skilled work in rendering technical assistance to dentists in the care of dental patients. This position provides primary clinical support for patient care by performing dental assisting duties in a variety of clinical settings, i.e., emergency care, general dentistry, restorative dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, and radiology. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Provide technical assistance to Dentists and dental students in the care of dental patients. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.Clean and sterilize instruments, prepare and arrange instruments, prepare and arrange instrument trays for clinical use. Explain procedures and provide support to patients. Pass instruments to the Dentist during dental procedures, Prepare impressions and filling materials. Operate oral evacuation equipment, retractors, and water/air sprays. Monitor patient's behavior and vital signs as requested by the Dentist. Complete patient records and charts, billings and reappointments. Clear and clean the Operatory and instruments. Take routine x-rays and photographs. Instructing patient, family, and /or health care staff in basic oral hygiene.
