Preferred Qualifications Position Summary This role provides administrative support to managers and directors of the Agricultural & Environmental Services Lab (AESL). Seeks advice and leadership from supervisor for complex issues of those involving authorization such as deviation from policy. Independent action and judgment expected in solving common problems. The position frequently deals with issues of a highly confidential nature will use discretion effectively. In addition, it serves as primary contact for departmental programs and outside entities. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Ability to use discretion with confidential information. Ability to use independent judgment. Physical Demands Sitting for long periods of time. Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Provides administrative support to the director, managers, and IT. Assists in the planning, research, development, and implementation of programs and special projects. Works with senior staff to promote the overall visibility of the lab through outreach and tours. Percentage of time 35 Duties/Responsibilities Act as the main point of contact for all things pertaining to Sample/Receiving of the Soil, Plant, and Water Lab. Handles all day-to-day functions of sample preparation for analysis, including receiving all packages coming in, organizing samples, and preparing them for analysis by the technicians. Works alongside IT to troubleshoot any data entry issues. Interacts with customers for sample drop-off, answering questions that clients may have, ensuring paperwork is correct, and collecting payment for analysis. Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities Works alongside senior staff to provide education and outreach programs to ensure that CAES County Cooperative Extension Offices are educated and well versed in the services offered by AESL. This can include assisting with training sessions for new county secretaries, agents, and other personnel. Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities Oversees and trains student workers in sample/receiving responsibilities. Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities Act as a backup to the administrative specialist when needed. Other duties as assigned.
