Job Description

GEI's Chicago, Illinois office is seeking a Senior Environmental Professional with eight (8) or more years of relevant experience beyond a college degree. In service of project success and client satisfaction, and with supervision by and in collaboration with senior project managers, this individual will contribute to development of consulting solutions. Growing opportunities in a variety of service areas is driving the need for this position, including renewable energy, sustainability, permitting, ecology, remediation and redevelopment.

Office tasks will include review and interpretation of data and preparation of reports and work plans; task and project planning and management; assistance with business development and preparation of proposals; client, subcontractor and regulatory agency interaction; development and implementation of remedial strategies and plans; and remedial design.

Field activities will include environmental site assessment; observe and document performance of test borings and installation of groundwater monitoring wells; collection of soil, sediment, collection of groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, rock, soil vapor, and air samples.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

Work on a variety of environmental projects throughout the Region, but primarily in Illinois.Support environmental site assessments, remedial and pre-design investigations, test borings, well installations, environmental sampling of various media (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, air), and technical oversight of subcontractors.Conduct data management and analysis, prepare and review work plans and technical reports, and assist in preparation of presentations and proposals to clients and regulators.Develop investigation and remedial strategies for various types of sites and contaminants and collaborate in the design and installation of remediation solutions, primarily with the Illinois EPA's (IEPA) Site Remediation and LUST Programs, with respect to client's property redevelopment goals.Manage and execute project success (scopes, schedules, budgets, deliverables, client satisfaction).Interact with subcontractors, clients and regulatory agency representatives.Manage projects and coach junior staff.Assist with proposals and business development activities.Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology or similar Science.8+ years of relevant professional experience preferably in environmental consulting.Excellent project management and communication skills.IEPA Site Remediation Program and conceptual site modelling experience is preferred.Professional license (PE, PG) or near-ability to achieve is a plus.Experience with Phase I environmental site assessments is preferred.Experience with renewable energy project consulting and permitting is a plus.Experience with or interest in PFAS investigations is a plus.Familiarity with geotechnical, mining, landfills and/or construction services is a plus.Proven and concise technical report writing ability is a must.Seller/Doer mindset, curiosity and empathy.Willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed.Experience with software such as AutoCAD or ArcGIS, is a plus.40-hour HAZWOPER training - preferred.Physical ability to perform field work in summer and winter conditions.Valid U.S. driver's license.We are GEI.
