Who we are

The Beam Tech Operations Engineering team as a whole ensures the smooth introduction and sustaining of products into the factory and field. This group collaborates closely with key customers within Thermo Fisher Scientific to facilitate development, ramp, and manufacture of ion and electron microscopy equipment. We are looking for a mechanical engineer to join our group to help lead technical supply chain initiatives that support our manufacture of ultra-high vacuum sub-micron capable technology.

What you will doBecome an authority on manufacturing techniques used for Beam Tech parts.Evaluate remotely and in-person potential suppliers' ability to meet our strict design criteria.Qualify prospective suppliers through collaboration with their engineering teams to define expectations and improve quality.Expand capabilities of existing suppliers assisting them in gaining new skills.Recommend strategic partnerships and criteria to ensure prioritized growth for Thermo Fisher.Explore DFM (Design for Manufacturability) opportunities with existing and new suppliers.Directly redesign the parts or work closely with other engineering groups as needed to support design initiatives and improvements.Assist Engineers with communication and revisions needed for successful problem resolutionEvaluate and revise TPD (Technical Product Documentation) for successful parts transfer or new supplier qualification.Harmonize the TPD standards between operations and R&D to ensure current standards and design criteria are collected and agreed upon.Look for new technologies and/or materials that could be applicable to the manufacture of our parts.Participate on NPI projects from a DFM and supplier selection perspective.How you will get here

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master's degree preferred.5+ years experience in high tech cleanroom manufacturing environments.Experience with high vacuum and high electrical field components a plus.Computer aided design experience. NX experience a plus.Experience building user documentation and engineering reports using common Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications.Ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining partnership of multi-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites.Self-starter who is also highly productive when not supervised to meet the agreed objectives.Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in peer to peer interaction as well as in networking with senior internal and external personnel in own expertise area.
