Other duties may be assigned.•Formulate, direct, and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the quality assurance department. •Manages QA/Food Safety technical and compliance system to ensure food safety by creating, maintaining, updating, evaluating, or auditing all programs and policies as needed for full certification according to Good Manufacturing Practices, HAACP, FSMA, GFSI, etc.•Oversee third-party audits, customer audits, and government audits. Interface with third party auditors, Kosher Council, and county, state, and federal agencies as pertains to audits, GMP, HACCP, regulatory, quality, and food safety issues.•Lead and support Mizkan and external standards (GFSI.) implementation and drive the appropriate Q&FS mindset and behavior.•Manage quality and food safety incidents, supporting decision making for out of specification materials and products, ensuring that relevant established corrective and preventive actions are implemented. Accountable for quality food safety risk assessments and oversee the resolution of non-conforming areas.•Troubleshoot and resolve product quality problems by researching problems, analyzing data, and developing solutions to problems.•Conduct analytical testing to determine solutions. •Ensure completion of preventative maintenance and repairs of laboratory instrumentation. •Supervise employees engaged in quality assurance activities. •Enforce company policies, establish performance standards, and evaluate employee status. •Oversee plant sanitation and pest control programs. Ensure compliance with HACCP, process and quality SOPs, and adherence to GMP standards. •Participate in key continuous improvement projects in close collaboration with plant team, Business unit functions including operations, engineering, commercial and supplier quality assurance•Participates in new product scale-ups and rollouts, verifying complete compliance of Mizkan and customer specification information.•Review process deviations to support operation in root cause analysis and evaluations of current processing, working with internal or outside process authority, as necessary.•Work with production personnel in an advisory role to assist them with quality issues within their departments. •Oversee analytical work done at each step of the production process to assure that quality control standards are maintained.•Develop lab and plant specifications for each product. •Provide technical support to customers and assist in the resolution of problems. •Hire, train, supervise, mentor, and develop Quality staff. Evaluate performance and activity of team members and provide appropriate feedback. •Provide quality training to production employees. •Responsible for Food Quality, Safety and Legality.EDUCATION: •Bachelor's degree in food science or chemistry or equivalent education and experience required.•PCQI and HACCP certification required.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:•5 years of Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment.•3 years of proven leadership with management experience in equivalent role.•Have knowledge in laboratory testing procedures including chemical, microbiology, and basic instrument testing as well as sensory analysis. •Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.•Strong math skills and the ability to develop and implement a SPC program. •Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Programs and/or D365 •Ability to work with all levels within the organization.•Must possess strong leadership & team building skills.•Must be well organized, results oriented, and have effective problem-solving ability.•Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills are essential.•Ability to work from policies and general objectives, referring specific cases to superior when clarification and interpretation of organization's policy is required.•Ability to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines on short notice.•Ability to work in extreme temperatures, working at heights and exposure to dust, gases, fumes, noise and chemicals or require personal protective equipment.•Show good judgment and sound reasoning skills.•Ability to delegate authority.•Must have a strong floor presence and be able to interact effectively with people at all levels. •Ability to lift and move over 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation is required.
