General Description:
The substitute bus driver will transport students to and from school and other sites within the designated route(s) ensuring the safety and welfare of passengers while operating a school vehicle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Drive a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules; picking up and discharging students at designated stops.Services bus with gas and checking tires and batteries when necessary.Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy and/or individual educational plans.Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating conditions.Attends various meetings regarding safety, students, first aid and other training as required.Operate a two-way radioPerform related duties as required.Professional Responsibilities
Able to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships.Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Able to work independently and exercise initiative.

Success in this position requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities
KnowledgeKnowledge and understanding of the provisions of the Delaware Motor Vehicle Code and District policies related to the operation of vehicles used to transport school children.Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques.Knowledge of safe driving practices.Knowledge of of relevant policies and procedures mandated by the State of DE including suspected child abuse and/or neglect.Knowledge of how to communicate and provide information to co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.SkillsActive listening -Giving full attention to what others are saying and taking the time to understand what is being said.Social perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.Coordination & Flexibility - Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions, and an openness to accepting new assignments and duties.Communicating - Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in personAbilitiesAbility to read, write, and communicate with others.Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner.Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently.Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving.Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties.Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
