Location:Carroll High School NORTHWEST ALLEN COUNTY SCHOOLSJob DescriptionPosition: PK-12 School NurseSupervisor: Corporation Nurse, PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities:The school nurse is often the only health care provider in the school setting; therefore school nurses may be called upon to the following responsibilities. Other job-related duties may be assigned.1. Knowledge of school health polices and guidelines2. Knowledge of Indiana statues, laws and regulations concerning community and child health service3. Knowledge of HIPPA regulations/confidentially laws concerning student health records and adhering to regulation standards4. Knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogen/Universal Precaution regulation, implementing and supervising program in assigned school5. Knowledge of Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Intervention Guidelines and responsibilities when activated6. Initiate new student health records, including immunization and health history7 Providing direct health services for all students and staff in assigned school or other school clinics as needed, including those with complex medical/psychological conditions. Includes medication administration, first aid, medical, social, and psychological counseling, appropriate referrals, emergency care of medical and/or injury8. Development of individualized health care plans for students with significant and complex medical, health and safety concerns by utilizing the nursing process, and provide input into IEP's and 504's as needed for students in assigned school9. Collaborate with other student services personnel to prevent health problems from becoming reasons for educational failure.10. Performing all health related screening requirements and prepare state report data for assigned school11. Identifies and refers students for psychosocial and substance abuse issues and evaluated intervention, and coordinates these needs with guidance, S.A.P program and administration.12. Participates in home visits if needed13. Query and distribute health problem lists14. Supervising and delegating to other staff, according to Indiana Nurse Practice Act, in assigned school ensuring competency15. Assessing outcomes of health service activities for quality improvement16. Assisting with inventory supply and ordering for school clinic17. Providing First Aid Kits and field trip supplies for school needs18. Assisting with coordinating first aid, CPR, and other health related in-services for classified and certified staff in assigned school19. Assisting with orientation of new school nurses and sub-nurses20. Assisting with pre-kindergarten orientation and fall school registration21. Providing consultation to administration and school staff concerning student and environmental health issues in assigned school22. Participating in health related meetings in assigned school, and attends nursing department meetings23. Attend faculty meetings as needed, to identify the school nurse as a member of the staff24. Contributing to sequential PK-12 health and PE curriculum as requested in assigned school25. Assisting with coordination of preventive health education for students and staff through wellness education programs in assigned school for staff and students26. Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases27. Representing school health services in community events28. Make available health related resources to the assigned school personnel, students, and parents29. Acting as liaison between assigned school and medical community for students and parents in assigned school.30. Coordinating with community health services and agencies as needed for students in assigned school31. Initiating appropriate guidance, administration and community referrals to include reporting signs of or suspected child abuse or neglect, self harm or harm to others.Minimum Qualifications1. Education, Licensure and Certification2. Graduate of Registered Nursing Program3. Valid and current license to practice as a Professional Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana4. Current CPR and AED certification5. Criminal history clearance6. Valid Drivers License, daily access to personal vehicle and driving skillsExperience1. Three years of full time work experience in a clinical setting: pediatrics, school health, emergency department, or community health nursing preferred2. Basic computer skills, ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook email), PowerSchool, CHIRP, and NACS Nursing Notebook (computerized clinic guidelines).Knowledge, Skills and Abilities1. Knowledge of Indiana Nurse Practice Act2. Knowledge, skills and ability to perform health procedures and treatments3.
