Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position will be a crucial part of Invenergy's Public Affairs Department, a dynamic group that engages with all Departments and business units in the company to address ongoing and emerging policy issues with key stakeholders. Specifically, this role will report to the Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs, focused on federal issues in Congress.

The Vice President, Congressional Affairs will, at the direction of the Senior Vice President for Federal Affairs, lead all federal congressional advocacy activities for Invenergy and drive bipartisan federal policy development across a broad range of clean energy-related topics. These include, but are not limited to, energy project delivery, permitting, continued onshoring of American energy expertise and technology, tax trade, labor and implementation of infrastructure legislation. The Vice President, Congressional Affairs will be a key advisor in recognizing and prioritizing issues of impact, developing and executing integrated advocacy activities including full-scale campaigns, advising the company on political finance strategy that align with the bipartisan policy goals of the company, and engaging elected and appointed contacts on the Hill. The Vice President of Congressional Affairs will manage external consultants for the portfolio and collaborate closely with internal business units and external stakeholders on issues related to our diverse business portfolio, including energy security through domestic energy production, efficient utilization of the country's abundant natural resources, and development of a strong American workforce and creation of American jobs.

Invenergy has a broad portfolio of domestic and international business interests and advocates across technologies such as natural gas generation, land based and offshore wind, solar, energy storage, electricity transmission, hydrogen, and other emerging technologies.

The qualified candidate will have the experience and knowledge to successfully drive successful outcomes for this unique and cross-cutting set of public policy issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead implementation of the corporate federal congressional affairs strategy for Invenergy, in support of Invenergy's corporate goals and in collaboration with other relevant internal and external stakeholders, consultants, trade associations, others, and implement that strategy across the company.Develop and prioritize Invenergy's corporate federal policy goals, in collaboration with relevant Public Affairs teammates.Translate federal policies into easy-to-understand collateral that can be produced and distributed to key internal and external stakeholders in furtherance of key policy goals.Identify legislative and regulatory opportunities for engagement and execution of Invenergy's policy priorities and engage Congressional leaders and staff in furtherance of those goals.Maintain Invenergy's policy priorities and positions in collaboration with the Federal Affairs team and, more broadly, the Public Affairs team, for Invenergy's executive team.Arrange principal-level meetings for Invenergy leaders and, where necessary, meetings and calls with influential, senior-level government officials in legislative and executive branches.Develop and execute advocacy campaigns through coalitions with peer companies, business associations and other relevant organizations.Manage external consultant relationships and activities.Provide updates on policy advocacy efforts, including real-time updates on quickly evolving issues.Collaborate with Invenergy's origination, development, procurement, finance, state government affairs, environmental and regulatory affairs teams for business-critical matters.Develop strategic relationships with peer companies, customers, and trade associations.Advise on and participate in InvenergyPAC planning, operations, and distribution including, but not limited to, attending fundraisers and establishing relationships with key campaign finance officials; andEnsure the Federal Congressional Affairs team complies with internal political engagement policies as well as federal laws.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in political science, law, public administration, energy policy, or related fields; advanced degree or relevant certification is a strong plus.At least 10+ years relevant experience as an industry or corporate lobbyist, senior committee staffer, legislative director, or other relevant experience at the federal level.Strong knowledge of relevant energy, environmental, tax, and labor laws that apply to electric utilities and energy developers, owners, and operators, or similar laws.Extensive experience lobbying federal officials on complex laws and policies, or in developing these laws at relevant federal agencies, Congress, or other U.S. governmental organizations.Existing relationships with senior- and executive-level government officials, including but not limited to Members of Congress, Committee leadership, and Congressional staffers; andExperience that demonstrates clear progression of managerial responsibilities.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong coalition- and team building experience.Strong advocate for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace and government.A self-starter with a strong results-based orientation and outstanding work ethic.Experience managing a team with budgeting responsibilities.Deep network of power sector government relations professionals.Energy tax experience - particularly tax law related to PTCs and ITCs.Trade policy advocacy experience (Sections 201 and 301; AD-CVD).Relevant DOI and DOE advocacy experience.Master's degree in business, public policy, political science, energy policy, taxation or law strongly preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication skills; andMust reside in the D.C. area.

LOCATION

The position is required to report onsite at Invenergy's Washington, D.C. office.
