Over the next 5 years, UT-Dell Med will undergo a rapid scaling that includes opening a greenfield, tertiary academic hospital adjacent to MD Anderson's new cancer center hospital, expanding ambulatory facilities, recruiting over 300 new physicians and advanced providers, and establishing the data and technology infrastructure to enable this transformation. The Executive Director of Research serves as the dyad partner to the Dell Medical School Vice Dean for Research. Together, they oversee the operational, financial, and strategic performance of the Dell Med Research Pillar.PurposeResearch is at the heart of this growth and expansion, and we are seeking applicants for Executive Director of Research to serve in partnership with the Dell Med Vice Dean for Research to lead the expansion of research infrastructure and administration, pursue the goals of the research strategic plan, and partner with the greater UT Austin research administration and campus researchers and external partners to extend collaborations. The Executive Director of Research will play a major role in developing strategies, processes, and teams to accommodate the expected growth of health-related and life-science research at Dell Med.ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with the Vice Dean for Research, Associated Dean for Translational Research, and Associate Dean for Strategic Research Initiatives to develop and execute the Dell Med research strategic plan and priorities in alignment with Dell Med's

Develops, implements, and oversees the administration of research policies in partnership with the Vice Dean for Research.
Partners with the Vice Dean for Research to operationalize, fund, and sustain Research Centers and Institutes as they commence.
Collaborates with the Dell Med Office of Development to identify and secure new research funding opportunities and steward research-related gifts.
Oversees day-to-day operations of the Dell Med research enterprise in a manner consistent with the Dell Medical School values of collaboration, innovation, excellence, stewardship, and impact.
Collaborating with the Dell Med and UT Austin research leadership envisions and guides the research infrastructure development of the emerging medical center, anchored by Dell Medical School.
Provides leadership and oversight of the research administrative staff, including setting performance expectations, monitoring progress, providing mentoring, and assuring efficient delivery of services.
Ensures compliance with internal policies, external local/state/federal regulatory requirements, and NIH and other research grant requirements.
Collaborates with the Office of the Vice President of Research and Creative Endeavors to ensure the alignment of Dell Med and UT Austin's research strategies, initiatives, and operations.
Serves as a member of Dell Medical School and The University of Texas Medical Center, anchored by Dell Medical School leadership to provide research perspectives and guide overall institutional strategies.
Other related duties as assigned.
Organizational Relationship (reporting relationship)Administrative partner to the Vice Dean for Research and jointly responsible for the performance of the Research shield.
Dual reporting relationship to the Vice Dean for Research and the UT Medicine Executive Administrator for Academic Operations.
Manages senior research administrators across Dell Med and UT Medical Center's research programs.
Required Qualifications
A master's degree in health administration (or equivalent) and seven years of directly related experience in a academic medical center setting. Understanding of academic medical center/medical school research administration and finances.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred Qualifications
A PhD, DrPh, or other equivalent degree (MD) and five years of directly related experience. Demonstrated leadership competencies, including a record of willingness to make difficult decisions and drive successful execution of priorities.Excellent communication skills to interact with leadership and external collaborators across functions, levels, and departments toward shared objectives. Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to be agile and respond to changing environments. Strong organizational skills in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects. Evidence of empowering staff, innovating, and simplifying processes.Salary Range
