PGY2 Critical Care Resident

Purpose:Residents completing this residency program will have a well-rounded experience in caring for medical, surgical, neurosciences, and cardiovascular critical care populations. The residency program is designed to develop independent critical care pharmacists specialized in providing direct and indirect patient care to critical care patients as a part of an interdisciplinary team. In addition, the resident will learn to independently perform research and process improvement projects, participate in medical emergencies, and educate other pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and students.Patient Care Experience:Patient care is the backbone of this residency experience. OSUWMC has over 150 critical care beds including 24 bed neurosciences ICU, 26 bed surgical/burn/trauma ICU, 12 bed surgical oncology ICU, 16 bed cardiothoracic surgery ICU, 24 bed medical hematology/oncology ICU, and 48 bed general medical ICU. The critical care resident will have the opportunity to rotate through each ICU with 14 different preceptors. Potential electives include (but are not limited) to the areas of infectious diseases, pediatrics, pain and palliative, critical illness transition and recovery program, hepatology, solid organ transplant, emergency medicine, trauma/nutrition support, and burn.Research Experience:The PGY2 resident will experience mentorship from clinicians who have extensive research experience. A primary preceptor advisor will guide the resident as he/she generates a research question and carries out a major research project within the area of critical care. In addition, the resident will participate in a research lecture series to further develop their research skills.Teaching Experience:The PGY2 critical care resident will help precept Doctor of Pharmacy students enrolled at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, as well as PGY1 residents at OSUWMC. The resident will also be expected to facilitate small group case conference sessions and participate in a simulation lab as part of the critical care elective course.Staffing Experience:Staffing responsibilities include roughly one weekend out of 3 weekends (20 total weekends). Weekend staffing will include traditional staffing in the critical care/OR satellite pharmacy, as well as clinical coverage of various critical care and non-critical care areas.Additional Program Specifics:
