Associate Data Scientist, Bioinformatics & Computational Biology

To provide support for a major initiative related to translational research for the Translational Molecular Pathology-Immunoprofiling Laboratory Platform. Will apply and develop software tools to assist in performing data analysis in cancer research.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESProgramming
Assist in developing scripts/routines in R, Python etc. to automate analytical jobs. Proficient in using Unix, Windows and high-performance computing platforms to establish automated workflows to support routine, large-scale, multiomic biomedical data analysis.
Bio-Statistical analysis
With direction, apply statistical routines/packages to perform further manual/interactive data analysis, visualization, biological interpretation, biomedical hypothesis generation, and testing. Compile results using PowerPoint slides, Excel spreadsheets, etc. that can be easily accessed and understood by biomedical collaborators who do not have advanced computer skills.
Multitasking
Ability to work/manage multiple ongoing analytical projects. Be able to prioritize, streamline jobs/tasks/time, and make adjustments to workflows to ensure efficiency and progress.
Collaboration
Communicate effectively, describe results in simple language, manage expectations/progress/timeline with multidisciplinary biomedical/data-science teams, the ability to involve, partner with others professionally, and report effectively to managers.
Documentation
Document and version-control computer codes, scripts, results, so they are reproducible by others. Be able to draft relevant sections in scientific publications as coauthors.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or related field.
Experience
Required:
Two years experience in scientific software development/analysis.Preferred:
Bioinformatics, molecular biology, genomic, immunology analysis in one or more of these specialties.
