The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Microelectronics Design and Applications business pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefining the leading edge of exotic new technologies in computation, system security, and AI. Among our most challenging and exciting fields are Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Transformational Computing (TC). In AI we are developing capabilities to apply next generation AI and machine learning to NGMS solutions. In TC we are leveraging NG proprietary superconducting technologies to transform computing beyond Moore's Law and advance development of large-scale high performance computing systems. You will work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these solutions a reality.
The Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA) team is seeking a data system architect who will make significant and ongoing contributions to the maturation of our data driven processes. You will design, build and oversee the deployment and operation of technology to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. The ideal candidate must possess a strong understanding of different data standardization policies and the technologies to implement them. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with a passion for discovering and designing systems capable of managing data at scale. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders, internal data scientists, and functional teams in a fast-paced, research environment with an emphasis on driving collaboration, quality and speed to market.
This position requires work on site located at Linthicum, MD and/or Annapolis Junction, MD as needed.
What You'll get to Do:
Utilize technical expertise to lead the design of solutions for data strategy, governance.
Analyze and plan for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.
Consult with customers and key stakeholders to evaluate functional requirements for data applications.
Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design applications.
Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of data sources and data gathering techniques.
Generate high level operational concept documents, describing the interactions between the subject architecture and its environment, and between the architecture and external systems.
What you need to be successful in the role:
Knowledge of data administration and data standardization policies and standards.
Knowledge of the capabilities and functionality associated with various technologies for organizing and managing information (e.g., databases, bookmarking engines).
Skill in developing scalable data models.
Knowledge of the characteristics of physical and virtual data storage media.
Excellent attention to detail.
Skill in designing the best approach and architecture for automated data labeling and data lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Data Architect:
Bachelor's degree in a technical area with 9 years of relevant experience (7 years with technical MS; 4 years with a PhD in related field)
Previous Data Architect experience
Experience with data modeling
Experience designing systems to store and process large volumes of data
Experience with data cataloging tools for automated tagging / labeling of data
Excellent communication skills and customer facing experience
Proven ability to learn and master new technologies and techniques
Knowledge of data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
Knowledge of modeling practices
Able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance with poly per business requirements.
US Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SDLC, including Agile and test-driven methodologies
Previous working experience in government or industry in data strategy, models, flow models and standards.
Experience with modeling application data and application data for downstream analytical needs, including relational and NoSQL databases
Experience with heterogeneous database access, including relational, time-series, and NoSQL databases
Experience working with SQL, and Python
Experience with developing data pipelines
Experience with Object and File storage
Experience with Big Data storage systems
Possession of excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

Salary Range:
$127,000 - $190,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
