Position Overview
As a Principal Network Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Fiberlight’s complex network infrastructure. You will work closely with other engineering teams to ensure the stability, security, and scalability of our network. Your expertise in routing protocols, network automation, and Layer 2 networking will be crucial in driving our network initiatives forward.
Essential Job Functions
Design, implement, and manage large-scale network infrastructures
Configure and troubleshoot BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS routing protocols
Develop and maintain network automation scripts using Python and Ansible
Utilize GitHub for version control and collaboration on network automation projects
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network engineers
Conduct network performance analysis and optimization
Ensure network security and compliance with industry standards
Document network designs, configurations, and procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications
10+ years of experience with large scale networks
Extensive experience with BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS routing protocols
Proficiency in Python and Ansible for network automation
Familiarity with GitHub for version control and collaboration
Strong understanding of Layer 2 networking technologies including MPLS and EVPL
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Extensive experience with Cisco, Juniper, and other major manufacturers network equipment
Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE) are a plus
Experience with network security practices and technologies
Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Familiarity with SDN (Software-Defined Networking) technologies
