This Application Engineer role is within our Pay My Account Product Family. We are the internal technology team that handles the customer and agent experience for setting up and modifying payments and bank information across numerous channels. We are building out our capabilities and migrating our legacy tech stacks to a React - microservice architecture hosted in OpenShift. Application Engineer , you’ll build and release reliable software systems at scale. By partnering with enterprise-wide teams, you’ll develop and maintain full stack solutions that fit our business needs. You’ll use your holistic view of all products (and their interactions) to design elegant solutions and strategize the future state of our larger technical ecosystem. By independently innovating and advocating for best practices, you’ll solve complex problems and guide the team on implementing solutions from inception to production.In this specific role, you will be part of a product team and will collaborate with a cross-functional team to design and develop technical solutions and review the work of their peers. The position involves supporting core financial functionality of the Card business, as well as working to break apart a monolithic, batch-based system into modern, cloud-based microservices.Responsibilities:Contribute to product team deliverables using Java programming technologyDiagnose opportunities for automation and efficiency in the end-to-end product delivery cycleSolve complex technical problems and explore new ways to bring valueCollaborate with our business partners to understand all business requirementsAnalyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to productionAchieve team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skillsOversee design decisions and guide the team to achieve key results for products assigned to themRemediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions for potential failuresContribute to and lead technology communities at DiscoverMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field3+ years of experience in Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or relatedInternal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scalePreferred Qualifications:Experience with Payments and ACHExperience developing and implementing API service architectureExtreme automation mindset as it pertains to testing and build/deploy conceptsCI/CD Pipeline experience via Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Chef, Ansible, NexusTech stack includes Java, Spring, Kafka, OpenShift, and JenkinsApplication Deadline:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package.
