Division/Program Summary:The Division of Information Technology's mission and vision is to promote and protect the health of all New Yorkers through the use of innovative technology and health information that is useful and available.
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented SQL Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in database design, development, and optimization.
Position Summary:The Computer Systems Manager/ SQL Developer will work closely with our data analysts, software developers, and IT teams to create efficient and scalable databases that meet business requirements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain SQL databases to support applications and data analysis.Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and scripts to ensure data integrity and performance.Optimize database performance by tuning queries and designing indexing strategies.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement database solutions.Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues in a timely manner.Perform database migrations, upgrades, and backup/restoration processes.Analyze and improve existing database systems for scalability and performance.Ensure database security and data privacy compliance.
Minimum Qualifications1. A master's degree in computer science from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience in Information Technology (IT) including applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing, or user services. At least eighteen (18) months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the areas of applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties; or2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and six (6) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and must possess at least three (3) years of experience as described in "1" above, including the eighteen (18) months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred SkillsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.Proven experience as an SQL Developer, Database Developer, or similar role.Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server).Experience with database design, normalization, and performance tuning.Familiarity with ETL processes and data integration.Understanding of data security best practices and compliance standards.Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Experience with cloud databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).Knowledge of data warehousing and big data technologies.Familiarity with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and their integration with SQL databases.Certifications in database technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle) are a plus.
