Linear Accelerator Engineer

Description:JOB PURPOSE:
Repair and initiate medical linear accelerators, simulators, and other equipment utilized in the Radiation Oncology Department. Performs advanced technical support related to the maintenance and operation of medical linear accelerators. Keep records of system problems and issues.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs advanced equipment repairs on Linear Accelerators, CT, workstations and other devices in Linac work area.Performs preventive maintenance.Maintains files, supplies, and parts.Maintains knowledge current within field.Cost Containment.Communicates with staff and customers, including physicists, physicians and dosimetrists regarding equipment.Maintains regulatory documentation.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:Exceptional Communication and Customer Service Skills.Ability to analyze and interpret complex information related to the malfunctions of clinical equipment as described by clinical staff in determining equipment operational condition and ability to follow complex written instructions, perform tasks and document actions taken.Ability to perform during emergency or stressful situations.Ability to learn equipment maintenance and repair procedures from courses, service engineer representatives, and training materials.Computer and typing skills.Perform equipment database documentation.Qualifications:MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Associates Degree in Medical Electronics, BioMed, Electronic Technology or related military training required. Bachelors' degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or directly related field preferred.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Five (5) years experience performing corrective and preventative maintenance on high tech diagnostic equipment with three (3) years directly related experience maintaining and servicing medical linear accelerators. Specific experience on Varian linacs and authorized Varian training are highly desirable.MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
None.ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:ASEE certification or equivalent.Certified Radiology Equipment Service (CRES) preferred but not required.Vendor training preferred.Completion of certified training from Varian.Must possess specialized training by manufacturer or third party equipment repair in Linear Accelerator Equipment.Working knowledge of physics, imaging technology, medical terminology, medical instrumentation, anatomy, physiology, and Linac service techniques.Broad knowledge and understanding of OSHA, NFPA, DNV, TJC, EOC, FDA, and other specific regulations and standards pertaining to Linac equipment service and repair.
