Position DescriptionERT is looking for a junior-level
Service Support Engineer
to support work at NOAA's Fairmont Facility. This position will focus on legacy and non-legacy systems and will provide support to both the data center and antenna lead engineers. In this role, your duties will include data center monitoring, corrective and preventive maintenance, data center walkthroughs, emergency maintenance response, and status reporting. You will provide back up support for our satellite antenna technician. You will also be required to support equipment and supply shipping/receiving, inventory support, and other administrative management activities of the data center and satellite systems. You should have experience in taking proactive steps to reduce the likelihood of system outages, spot potential problems before they occur, and work on a team of professionals providing multiple site data monitoring, maintenance, and logistical support. Responsibilities include:
Provide primary support to legacy system operations at NOAA's CBU (Consolidate Back Up) Facility
Support actual contingency or COOP exercises, in addition to infrequent routine and ad hoc actions onsite at CBU
Perform systems administration on all servers, workstations, and peripherals located at CBU
Perform network management of all Government operational networks and components
Perform on-site network administration support, upgrades, and installations
Troubleshoot or verify information for documentation, planning and configuration management
Track and report metrics for availability, data usage, error rates, packet types, packet types per time, and queue lengths
Provide backup support to the antenna lead, data center engineer lead, and non-legacy system engineer
Required Skills
4+ years of experience as a data center technician, system administrator, or similar position.
CompTIA ServerPlus, CompTIA Network, or CCNP certification would be advantageous.
Knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment
Experience in supporting data center monitoring and ensuring the efficiency of data center systems
Experience in installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment
Exceptional ability to work as part of a team, provide IT support, and resolve errors
Ability to keep up with advancements in data center infrastructure and technologies
Willingness to learn new skills to serve as back-up for antenna lead
Proficiency in documenting network processes
Oral and written communication skills
Willingness to respond to network and server errors after hours
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the United States at least 3 out of the last 5 years and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities and systems.
EducationBachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, related degree or equivalent.
