These facilities are important because they help enable companies in hard-to-abate industries to reach their global climate targets.STRATOS is on track to become the world’s largest Direct Air Capture facility. Currently under construction, it is designed to capture up to 500,000 tons of atmospheric CO 2

annually and is expected to be commercially operational in mid-2025. HESS Engineer/Specialist

at our Direct Air Capture facility in

Ector County, TX

you will:Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.Support and facilitate employee involvement in environmental, safety, health, security, and emergency response systems.Implement personnel safety, equipment safety and compliance programs through training, inspecting, exposure monitoring, investigating incidents, compiling records and issuing required reports.Provide appropriate Health, Environmental, Safety & Security (HESS) leadership, counsel and coaching on HESS related issues, define requirements, interpret regulations and procedures, and assist to define acceptable solutions.Support and maintain overall HESS programs while incorporating accountability and responsibility for HESS performance into all levels of plant operations including, but not limited to: HESS training programs, accident and incident investigations, and maintenance of the incident reporting program.Complete specific projects, as needed, such as updating and maintaining permits, developing facility compliance plans, conducting applicability assessments, analyzing data and evaluating the need for engineering or administrative controls.Prepare various facility compliance reports across multiple disciplines.Support the safety process systems through leading and participation in planned inspections, job observations, near miss reporting, incident investigation, plant audits, and other programs as required.Assist in all HESS audits from OxyChem Corporate and regulatory personnel, and represent OxyChem at applicable community, and HESS organizations and functions.Conduct HESS audits at other facilities as required.Promote, guide, instruct, and interact in all business relationships in a manner that encourages continual improvement in department performance.Ensure HESS process related information is current, accurate and provides employees with information on process chemicals, technology, equipment, and operating procedures.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree (Chemical, Environmental, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science).5 years safety/environmental experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.Excellent project management skills and the ability to work as part of a team in a bottom-line driven, fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects with ever-changing priorities and deadlines.Thorough understanding of OSHA and environmental regulations as well as OxyChem’s HESS policies and procedures.Must be able to interface with corporate and plant level HES&S and plant management.Ability to analyze data, comprehend both abstract and concrete concepts, and translate technical information in a manner that can be communicated to non-technical personnel.High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays as needed and the ability to respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.Must be able to read, write and speak in English.Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs.Walking, bending, stooping is required.Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator and be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.Additional Desired QualificationsGood working knowledge of SAP.Oxy is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
