The Linux Server Administrator will provide Tier II support for escalated user issues. This position is also responsible for participating in disaster recovery functions, file restores, testing and supporting server applications, and collaborating with the Patch Management Group on server patching.Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems on workstations and servers.Customize Linux environments to meet the specific needs of different departments (e.g., R&D, Infrastructure, etc.).Deploy and manage software applications and development tools for workstations and servers.Manage user accounts, permissions, and authentication mechanisms.Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring workstations run efficiently.Apply system updates, security patches, and maintain overall system security.Develop and maintain scripts for automating system management tasks, including software deployment, configuration changes, and monitoring.Implement configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) to automate and standardize workstation setups.Ensure compatibility and proper configuration of hardware components, including CPUs, GPUs, storage devices, and peripherals.Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related issues.Configure and manage network settings on Linux workstations.Ensure secure connectivity for workstations through VPNs, firewalls, and other network security measures.Provide technical support to end-users for Linux-related issues, both remotely and on-site.Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and network issues in a timely manner.Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.Implement and enforce best practices for system security, backup, and disaster recovery that aligns with security governance, risk, and compliance.Essential Characteristics and CompetenciesAbility to lead by example in support of the Company's essential characteristics and values: strong ethics and integrity, dedication to a safe work environment, commitment to a diverse workforce that recognizes and respects every individual's unique skills and perspectives.Ability to adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture.Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet individual goals and deadlines.Ability to work as part of a team and display a positive attitude in a dynamic environment.Ability to remain patient, calm and effective in high-pressure situations.Ability to take initiative and do what needs to be done without being asked to do so.Desire to enhance personal knowledge and skillset with a continuous improvement mindset.Ability to respond positively to challenges and problems.Commitment to improving the customer experience; devoted to customer success.Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust.Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and establish rapport with a diverse array of people.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo direct supervision.Required Education (certifications, licenses)Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business Information Systems required; 5-7 years equivalent work experience in Information Systems may be accepted.VMware or Linux certifications.Red Hat Certified System Administrator or similar, a plus.Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), preferred.MTA: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals or similar, a plus.Valid Driver's License.Required knowledge, skill and abilitiesProven experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, ideally with some Red Hat experience. -

RequiredLinux command line scripting experience is a must have. - RequiredExperience with VMWare ESXi for server virtualization.Experience with configuration management tools, in particular Ansible.Experience with Windows Server Management: understanding of Windows Server environments, including setup, deployment, and maintenance.Experience with Active Directory including user and group management, Group Policy, and domain services.Experience with Windows share management, including troubleshooting shares, managing users. (SMB, NFS).Knowledge of networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, LAN, and WAN.Experience with Scripting: Ability to create and manage scripts using PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve hardware and software issues.Ability to work collaboratively with other IT teams and departments.Requires critical thinking skills, good judgment and organized methods in all facets of assigned duties.
