PURPOSE:Supports sales activities through specialized technical or scientific knowledge and product applications.JOB SUMMARY:The Asphalt Specialist must have technical knowledge & experience for paving jobs. The balance depends on the level of technical knowledge and understanding needed to respond to customer queries. The Asphalt Specialist works closely with Sales, Marketing, Product Support, R & D as well as customers and government officials providing engineering expertise, training, product knowledge, problem solving advice, and marketing the product. Extensive travel and frequent meetings with customers is an integral part of this position.

Qualifications

Job Accountabilities:Maintain familiarity with the design and operation of current and developing company productsProvide compaction expertise to end users, dealer sales personnel, District Managers and Sakai managementTravel to customer sites to assist with the demonstration and problem resolution for paving jobs as it pertains to Sakai machinesBe a liaison between Sakai and key asphalt associationsWork closely with state DOTs to get Sakai products written into state specsAssist the Sakai sales team in growing asphalt roller sales in alignment with sales and market share goalsProvide training to customers and sales channels on the proper procedures and assist in the technical publication’s personnel in the generation of documents, as required, to support application of company products including but not limited to competitive specs, sales manuals and catalog informationCoordinate with R & D as well as engineering to ensure accuracy and timeliness in issuing product change notices internally and to dealersProduce and publish Product Information Bulletins for Soil Machines outlining applications, features and benefitsPerform and assist with demonstrations of asphalt rollers, evaluation and first round approval of demos by all facets of application, job conditions, support necessary and the maintenance of a demo log for future reference and promotional activityCreate demo reportWrite instruction manuals as requiredPrepare presentation materials (PowerPoint, printing, etc.) targeted to specific subjects when invited to speakAssist in planning, setting up and working trade showsJob Qualifications:Bachelor’s in engineering required or 5+ years experience in lieu or a 4-year degree in heavy machinery (soil and asphalt industry)Requires a technical background and experience in industrial applications is a plusUnderstanding of regulations regarding testing and protocolsExcellent communication skills with constructive and positive critical thinkingSelf-motivated sales professional with the ability to build sales account relationships at all levelsAbility to balance the pressure and demand inherent to project management and technical discussionsMust present well in front of customersAbility to communicate both written and verbally in the English languageAbility to substantiate technical claimsKnowledgeable in preparing and presenting computer simulations, engineering calculations, research papers and data sheetsProficient in Microsoft Office applications, business processes and toolsAvailable to travel approximately 50% in this positionExperience with working with international companies that have ESOL is a plus3 years work experience with a paving company required
