Job Summary
The Field Engineer supports and manages operations in the field and provides accurate information to project controls of the work activities accomplished in the field. He or she assists superintendents and foremen in building the work accurately based on drawings and specifications and reports to the project engineer. A successful field engineer will need to interface between craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and members of the project team.
Essential Functions
Manage quantities and perform quantity takeoffs as requiredProcure, schedule, and manage subcontractors and material suppliers to ensure crews' needs are metAssist in work plan development and monitoring with project engineer, superintendents, and foremenManage quantity and cost reporting as accurately as possible, report results to superintendents and foremenParticipate in the Estimate Turnover MeetingAssist in converting the estimate to a control budget and set up job filesCoordinate and review submittalsAttend and participate in daily and weekly safety meetingsImplement quality assurance and quality control processes to verify construction activities against engineering specificationsPerform inspections on materials, workmanship, and construction methods to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirementsCollaborate with project managers to develop and execute quality control plans and ensure adherence to themIdentify deviations from plans and specifications, propose corrective actions, and work with site teams to ensure timely resolutionsDocument and report quality control findings, non-conformities, and corrective actionsAssist with change order pricingParticipate in the project document control process and assist in the as-built drawing processAssist in documentation between ZCC and owner, subcontractors, and suppliersMaintain accurate record set of project drawings and specificationsParticipate in the project close-out processFinalize cost report quantities used for payment applications and project reportsRequired Skills & Experience
1+ years' recent heavy highway, road, and bridge construction experience (prefer a prior internship with a heavy civil contractor)Medium to large project experience ($10M+) is preferredBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferredAbility to read and interpret construction drawings and specificationsWork independently as well as part of a teamStrong leadership skillsStrong problem-solving and analytical skillsStrong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-orientedStrong working knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as Excel and WordStrong verbal and written communication skillsMust be capable, licensed, and approved to drive a company pick-up truck or similar vehicle to work sites, offices, and other locations as required to perform job dutiesMust be able to climb up and down ladders and scaffolding to gain access to work and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the construction siteThis job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this position.
