Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer develops electrical subsystems for the ICU Medical family of infusion pump products.Our infusion pumps are digital microprocessor/microcontroller systems consisting of touchscreen displays, wireless communication, audio alarms, haptic feedback, motor control, power management, battery charge & discharge, and sensor systems. The engineer leads the concept definition & feasibility study, system design, design implementations including schematic capture, PCB design, board bring-up, and functional test, design validation such as signal integrity testing, performance verification, and product level troubleshooting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•Completes advanced engineering projects with peer input and guidance from engineering management.

•Expert in your domain of expertise. Familiar with other areas of domain expertise within team.

•Has mastered best practices. Has an advanced understanding of engineering discipline.

•Analyzes, plans, organizes and completes projects of a very complex nature. Develops scope and provides creative solutions. Plans, organizes and conducts technical projects. Consolidates results of design elements of major projects for purpose of design review. Integrates subsystems and components in total systems design. Develops specifications from customer requirements.

•Receives general project direction. Responsible for project progress.

•Delivers communications tailored to the needs of the audience (managers, peers, customers) with appropriate frequency to maximize its utility and promote cross-functional collaboration. Brings substantive conflicts and disagreements into the open and attempts to resolve them collaboratively; builds consensus.

•Support development of manufacturing test fixtures and tools for calibrating and testing the design.

•Perform root cause analysis for issues reported during development or in the field.

•Develop relationships with key suppliers to ensure product availability, stay up to speed on component roadmap, and quickly address end-of-life concerns.

Knowledge & Skills

•Knowledgeable of digital and analog electrical circuits and systems and experienced the system design.

•Knowledgeable of modern microprocessors and microcontrollers like ARM architectures.

•Experienced in design, troubleshooting, and verification of signal integrity of digital interfaces like USB, SPI, I2C, SMBus, LVDS, MIPI, SDIO, I2S, etc.

•Familiar with test equipment including mixed signal oscilloscopes (including analysis tools for USB, LVDS, SDIO, etc.), spectrum analyzers, multimeters, data acquisition modules.

•Test automation experiences using programming tools or languages like VEE or Python are well acknowledged.

•Circuit board layout and design, knowledge of industry best practices for power distribution, high speed signal integrity, and EMC design.Experience with multi-layer PCB with HDI and fine pitch BGA components.

•Experience with ECAD tools like Cadence/ORCAD or Altium is preferred.

•Familiar with industry standards for electrical safety and EMC (e.g. IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2).

•Perform FMEA on the electrical subsystem and identify design requirements for fault detection.

•Analog and digital sensor technologies, signal conditioning, calibration, and sensing algorithms.

•Agile project development experience and able to be proactive in communication between cross-functional teams in the development cycles.

•Clearly and accurately communicate concepts, challenges, and project plans to all levels of the organization.

•Create clear and concise documentation of the hardware design, sensor algorithms, and the engineering evaluation test plan and results.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience

•Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required

•A minimum of 7 years of experience

Work Environment

•This is largely a sedentary role.

•This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

•Typically requires travel 5-10% of the time
