JOB DESCRIPTION: ELECTRICIAN; APPRENTICE SALARY SCHEDULE: SCHEDULE WIII DEPARTMENT: MAINTENANCE FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT SAFETY-SENSITIVE: YES POSITION SUMMARY: The employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) Must clear all necessary criminal and vehicular background checks Must possess and maintain a current Oklahoma License for motor vehicles. Must be available for unscheduled, emergency call. Shall provide a reasonable method of communication during unscheduled, emergency situations. Currently licensed and in good standing as an Electrical Apprentice with the following; Oklahoma State Department of Health Electrical Division, City of Oklahoma City, City of Midwest City and City of Del City ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: On occasion must work in confined spaces above, below, or at ground level. Employee shall become proficient in the installation of power supply wiring and conduits. Employee shall become proficient in diagnosing malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables. Employee shall become proficient in the replacement of faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, motors, panel boards, load centers and all their related appendages. Employee must perform tasks from steel poles, scissor lifts, aerial bucket trucks, hydraulic ladders, etc. at heights not to exceed 110'. Employee shall develop a complete knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and its applications. Employee shall also develop a complete knowledge and understanding of all state and local Electrical codes. Employee shall develop a complete knowledge of all fire and life safety codes. Should be skilled in proper time management. Should develop a working knowledge of vendors, purchase orders, work orders, and call-in work requests. Shall develop an understanding of the planning and layout of wiring and installation of wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus inside and outside buildings. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables. Diagnoses and replacement of faulty mechanical hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, motors, panel boards, load centers and all their related appendages. Replacement of electric motors, starters, controllers, remote switches, etc. Plans layout of wiring and installation of wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus inside and outside buildings. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above. LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud. To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee's eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
