WHAT WILL YOU DO AS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST AT ELLIS MEDICINE?
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing, arranging for, teaching and supervising occupational therapy services through the process of assessment, planning and implementation. He/she provides advisory service to other professionals who share responsibility for patient care and participates in the development of the rehabilitation program.
Responsibilities
Provide evaluation and treatment according to approval practices, policies, and procedures of the Rehabilitation Services Department of Ellis Hospital and New York State law. Demonstrates skills and abilities to assess and treat newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Provide approved documentation to appropriate authorities.
Demonstrate effective communication skills with all persons involved in patient care and/or hospital activities
Assure financial viability according to standards of practice.
Demonstrates knowledge of growth and developmental processes and understanding of range of treatment needed for patients with special needs or age-related needs.
Develops plans for appropriate equipment needs of patients.
Teaches appropriate treatment procedures and supportive activities to patients and care givers.
Promote effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships – professional conduct.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST AT ELLIS MEDICINE?
Requirements
An occupational therapist must have a minimum of four (4) years of education beyond high school attaining Bachelor of Science degree or Certificate of Occupational Therapy from a college with a program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she should hold certification from the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she must be licensed to practice occupational therapy in/by the State of New York
Physical Requirements
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to stand/walk up to 6 hours per 8-hour shift, be able to lift up to 100 lbs intermittently through a shift, be able to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance and/or mechanical aid, be able to push/pull 100 lbs. without assistance, be able to roll a patient up to 200 lbs. from side to side without assistance, be able to transfer and/or pivot a patient up to 100 lbs., be able to perform occasional overhead extension of/above the shoulder raising of arms through a shift. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met and be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.

Salary Range: $27.52-$41.27 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
