WJM Professionals is recruiting a Physical Therapy Assistant to provide
personal
medical services to all Active-Duty beneficiaries. shall perform a full range of professional PTA concepts and practices on-site, for a variety of patients
RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICALWill review and assist with patient assessments under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.Deliver physical agents, therapeutic exercise, gait training, and other modalities following the policies of the department and the plan of care determined by the Physical Therapist.Collect and document evidence of the patient's response to treatment.Report any unwanted responses to treatment to the Physical Therapist.Modify an intervention in accordance with changes in patient/client status within the scope of the established plan of care.Instruct and train patients/family/caregivers to carry out home programs of exercise and activities of daily living based on patient and/or family needs and home environment.Provides preoperative instructions according to established protocols.Provides instructions for established health promotion/disease prevention programs.May supervise Physical Therapy Assistant students/Physical Therapy Tech /corpsmen and students under the direction of the Physical Therapy Clinical Coordinator.May supervise Physical Therapy Techs/volunteers in the preparation of patients and equipment, and general department upkeep for safety and infection control.Responsible for maintaining and upgrading clinical skills and competencies.Utilize USCG-prescribed electronic health records to document and manage healthcare informationResponsible for completing accurate documentation of patient progress using SOAP format.Assist with exercise prescription under Physical Therapist SupervisionADMINISTRATIVE:
Assists the Rehabilitation Services Branch with PT duties as assigned.Assists with supply acquisitionAssist and complete independently health promotion/disease prevention activities and community services such as health fairs and community education.FACTORS:
Knowledge required by the positionDuties require the application and knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and practices of physical therapy for the treatment and prevention of injury and disease.Knowledge about the normal human lifespan and be proficient in demonstrating competence in the care and treatment of orthopedic and sports-related injuries and rehabilitation techniques.Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, medical terminology, basic psychology, and interpersonal communication.Knowledge of therapeutic exercise, pool therapy, physical agents, gait, equipment, and computer technology, sports rehabilitation.Knowledge of cultural, social, economic, and medical characteristics of varied population groups.
SUPERVISORY CONTROL
Works under the direction and supervision of the Supervisory Physical Therapist.Completes the delivery of Physical therapy in accordance with the plan of care determined by the Physical Therapist.In general supervision, the Physical Therapist is not required to be on-site for direction and supervision but must be available at least by telecommunication.Work is evaluated by onsite PHS or Contract Physical Therapist and patient satisfaction surveys.GUIDELINES
The American Physical Therapy Association has published practice guidelines for professional practice and ethics.Further guidelines may be established by state law and monitored through the licensing board.General policy guidelines are based upon the standards of practice and hospital accreditation standards.Knowledge and mastery required by this position are established by professional examination and licensure at the state level.COMPLEXITY
Responsible for carrying out a full range of Physical therapy treatments by using a variety of exercise protocols, therapeutic modalities, physical agents of heat and cold, massage, hydrotherapy, gait training, and wound care.Evaluates patient response to treatment but may not conduct initial patient evaluation.Effectively completes patient and family education in a manner sensitive to everyone's situation.
SCOPE AND EFFECT
The purpose of this position is to provide a continuum of skilled care to meet the needs of many individuals such as cadets and active-duty members. This may include but is not limited to exercise, gait training, and patient/family/caregiver education depending on the situation.The work directly impacts the individual's quality of life and facilitates health promotion and disease prevention guidance and education.PERSONAL CONTACTS
With clinic providers, corpsmen, nurses, administrative staff, etc. Other contacts are with patients/families/caregivers (surgeons); community; vendors.
PURPOSE OF CONTACT
Works as part of a healthcare team. Must be able to verbalize and write/document communication. The incumbent must appreciate the emotional aspects of illness/disease/injury and effectively apply appropriate strategies to work with a variety of patients, family members, and staff members.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Required to move patients, equipment, and supplies consistent with a busy inpatient and outpatient program. The work requires considerable lifting, pushing, pulling, and performance of therapeutic exercise programs for minimally to severely physically impaired individuals.
QUALIFICATIONS
The provider of PTA services shall possess and maintain for the duration of this agreement:A certificate or associate degree as a PTA from a state-accredited program and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months; or,Certification from a military medical assistant ''A'' school (i.e. Health Service Technician, Hospital Corpsman) and has "C" school training as a military PTA and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.No "adverse information on file" with the National Practitioners Data Bank (NPDB).The PTA must be physically capable of performing all Physical Therapy Services.Maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).CREDENTIAL REVIEW
The contractor shall submit the following credentials to be evaluated for technical acceptability.

Degrees or certificates earned.Professional Experience.Social Security Number.Date of birth (to be used only for the purposes of independent query of the NPDB);Career history.Professional Training/Courses attended in the past two years.Professional organization affiliations and memberships.Previous work references including name of the organization, number of years rendered, address, and name of the point of contract with the telephone number;Awards and certifications received.
NECESSARY COPIES:
A certificate or associate degree from an accredited school of PTA or certification from a military PTA school (a "Polaroid" picture is acceptable as a copy);National Board certification from an accredited certifying agency, if applicable.Evidence of immunity to Hepatitis "A" and "B" and evidence of freedom from chronic communicable disease(s) i.e., HIV, TB, and Sexual transmitted diseases (within 30 days of start of work);Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP);At least three (3) letters of recommendation from recent employers addressing PTA services.
