Description of Job
This position is a member of the Finance Team at History Colorado, and provides support to the team in the areas of budgeting, financial planning and analysis, reporting, process improvement, forecasting, data collection and analysis, program analysis, and compliance with State of Colorado guidelines.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Budget (30%)
Assists the Budget Manager in collecting and consolidating all budget data, and in preparing the Budget Schedules and supporting materials as part of the History Colorado State budget submission.
Assists the Budget Manager in preparing and analyzing the actual-to-budget variance reports.
Improve, execute and effectively communicate significant analyses that identify meaningful trends and opportunities across the organization
Participate in meetings regularly with managers to assess issues and identify and implement improvements for more-efficient operations
Submit budget documents and transactions in CORE (Colorado’s statewide financial system) as needed every month.
Prepares, analyzes and improves data collection for the monthly Statement of Activities. Assists with the presentation of the Statement of Activities to the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
Reviews legislation and compiles data and information for Fiscal Note responses, as needed, during the legislative session.
Reportin g (30%)
Compiles monthly reports for revenues and expenditures in grant programs.
Cleans the data and compiles monthly operations budget reports for all units/departments/programs at History Colorado on a monthly basis.
Develops reports as requested by the Budget Manager or the Chief Financial Officer for use by senior management.
Supports the Budget Manager in developing financial and business reporting tools to aid in program analysis.
Accounting/Procurement (20%)
Assist the Accounting team as needed during the year-end and month-end close process.
Participates in the development and review of procurement strategies and bid documents for critical components of the organization's operations.
Ana ly sis (20%)
Performs financial modeling and forecasting for use in planning, budgeting, and program analysis under the direction of the Budget Manager and the Chief Financial Officer .
Conducts return on investment analysis of business initiatives as requested.
Develops and reviews, financial and performance metrics for each department and budget unit.
Participates in the development and review of business plans describing new revenue-generating opportunities .
WHO YOU ARE:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, economics, data science or a related field.
A minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience in budget, accounting, or business or financial analysis.
You work well independently as well as with teams and are able to thrive in a socially progressive and dynamic environment

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Advanced analytical skills, with experience collecting, organizing, disseminating abundant information accurately.
Knowledge of financial management principles and procedures and ability to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions.
Ability to identify, interpret, and apply state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to History Colorado's operations.
Advanced proficiency with Google or Windows-based software packages involving spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentation applications.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent human relations and customer service skills, including the ability to work as a team member and work with internal and external stakeholders.
PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
2+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), consulting, a related function, or an advanced degree
Ability to work with and analyze large datasets, build dashboards (visualizations), and provide insights
Ability to plan, execute and deliver on projects in a timely manner and to multitask on varying projects and initiatives
Excellent problem-solving, investigative and modeling skills, with the ability to work with teams to frame issues, structure analyses, and deliver impact
Proficiency with statistics and dataset analytics (SQL, Access, Excel)
Experience in state government accounting, budgeting, and not-for-profit accounting
