We are looking for a skilled and motivated Tooling/Process Engineer to join our research team whose mission is to lead the design, development, and production of new molding tools and parts for low/moderate volume prototypes. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in material selection, process optimization, and tool design for overmolding of electronics. This candidate will be able to work with a team of researchers and engineers who are pushing state-of-the-art wearable devices in part design and material development.Tooling/Process Engineer ResponsibilitiesProvide design for molding feedback and materials recommendations to mechanical engineers to improve the manufacturing feasibility of thermoplastic, thermoset, and metal partsCultivate and manage tooling and molding suppliers in the design, manufacturing and qualification of tooling and molded partstravel as needed to ensure successful tool launchCollaborate with a cross-functional team in the selection of materials to meet performance, schedule, dimensional and cosmetic requirementsLead the design, development, and production of new silicone/plastic injection mold tooling (including optimization trials and DOEs) to meet strict part and assembled device requirementsLiaison with other tooling/process engineers to share expertise and take advantage of industry advancementsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing Engineering or a relevant technical field5+ years experience with a wide range of molding techniques including multiple of the following: insert molding, 2 shot molding, die casting, transfer molding, liquid silicone molding, and thermoformingExperience managing working relationships with international and domestic suppliers to design and build tooling for high volume, tight tolerance consumer electronics products or similarExperience guiding teams and suppliers through understanding and use of Molding simulations (Moldflow, etc.), SPC, DOE, and GD&TExperience advising designs with a variety of elastomeric thermoplastic (TPU, TPE) and thermoset (silicone, NBR) resinsPreferred QualificationsMultishot molding and insert/overmolding of electronic componentsExperience identifying disruptive technologies in all phases of tool design, tool manufacturing and part creation, and implementing them into production environmentsExperience with post molding operations including but not limited to: deflashing, coating, painting, pad printing, laser engraving, adhesive applicationKnowledge in metal part fabrication methods (die-casting, stamping, forging)Experience with tooling quoting, price negotiations, and cost breakdownsFor those who live in or expect to work from California if hired for this position, please click here for additional information.
